Red Headlights - Is anyone still making them

I've seen some old gasser pics where the cars had red or green headlights. Personally - I think they look really cool on these old cars along with the color tinted windows.

Is anyone still making these headlights or what did they use back then?

For a race car - NOT THE STREET

You can make your own by using translucent type paint.

Question: Are you planing on running this on the street?

  4. At least in a four headlight system red and blue replacement sealed beams were made for emergency vehicles.

That being said, many states prohibit these for street use. Depending on how the law is written, even having a disconnected red or blue bulb on the front of your vehicle would be at minimum a violation, or worse a tow/impound or arrest.

I would check with your DMV before installing them on your car.

No - Not on the street. No need to attract any attention outside of it being illegal. Looking for where to find them for an old race car.

What shovelheadrider said, most places frown on "impersonating an emergency vehicle" even if that is not what you are doing. Usually anything other than white or amber lights facing forward will earn you at minimum a discussion with the man.

Edit: you posted not for the street while I was typing.

Don't run them on the street! You cant have any lights red or blur projecting on your car unless its a emergency vehicle. you can be sited for impersonation of a police officer, stupid charge on a old vehicle I know.

Seriously, this works for lights, it doesn't last forever, but it works for a while. Also note it works for interior lights as well.

Just get some transparent colored vinyl. Check google, they have precut kits for euro big body sedans in yellow and blue.

Some for function (like yellow fog lights), and most for fashion.

  19. Of the two common sizes the 5" which are normally the 4 headlight system are avaliable in red and amber but with screw connections on the back, I have never seen the 7" in colors but ??? who knows if they were offered back in the day?

I had one on my 29 during mock-up. just for fun, looked kinda neat. was a nos unit i picked up at a swapmeet somewhere. the red color was "cast-in" somehow, not a coating. it was a sealed 12v unit with high and low beam.

I always found bulbs at E Sam Jones Co. I've had good luck there before. I don't have any more info than the name. If you can't find them let me know and I'll try from this end. Hope thats some help!!!

Tamiya transparents work for me and hold up better than anything I've seen. I even used them on my jack o lantern parking lights with good results. I know, eyeballs and pumpkins aren't for everybody.

  27. I bought a red lensed square headlamp(high beam)at a yard sale once.Unusual construction:it was a sealed beam but the reflector was made of plastic. Was going to use it as a high mounted stop light to blind these idiots who come up behind you with their high beams on and refuse to dim them.
