Help me out here please. I was of the understanding that Chrysler/Desoto tubes are a different length than the Dodge Red Ram tubes. Can you comment? Perhaps it depends on the brand/style valve cover being used. Looking at some sets on ebay, hot heads doesn't list them for Red Ram. I've searched here and find few results. Looks like stock Red Ram should be 5 15/16 and 426 6.125-6.25 at 1.25 o.d. I also see nearly as many comments about folks having junk ones. What should I be paying attention to that makes them un-usable, rot, bent or? Any real world experience would be greatly appreciated. I am expecting delivery of a 325 Red Ram with some type of plated/polished valve covers early this coming week and it comes with no plug tubes or valve train. I am trying to source parts to complete this engine. Thanks, Victor
New tubes are NS1. The 426 tube can be used with mod's. The tube acts for the washer on the sparkplug so many tubes will be worn out at the bottom. If you were to find some of the short slant-6 tubes you could stretch them to fit over the bottom of the damaged tube however, the /6 tubes are getting hard to find. Generally, old aftermarket vc should accommodate the stock length tubes. You will also need to figure out how to seal the tube to the valve cover...everyone would seem to have their own solution for this. You might want to post your location so members can offer local help/solutions/parts.
Ft Worth/Denton TX area. Doing some looking around I find these on ebay. A couple look sketchy at the plug ends but looks like they could be trimmed .150-.180" at top and carefully flared to work. Assuming 5 15/16" is correct for the valve covers. Summit offers these for 426 but the square shoulders at the tops would make them hard to shorten unless they are long enough to trim off the shoulders and flare to fit. Summit also offers these seal kits but don't say whether machining the head for fit is required like the ones from Hot Heads. Hot Heads offers these for Chrysler but the image doesn't make it clear whether they are flared at the top or "square shouldered". Maybe just have to ask them. Anywho, just looking for what others have done to make tubes work with Red Ram covers. Of course when it arrives in a couple days and I can measure, maybe I find that with these being obviously after market covers they were made to use more commonly available tubes. My mind races trying to solve issues I know are going to come up. Took three yrs to complete the Big Boss Ford during covid even constantly trying to think ahead. I really don't want the Red Ram project to stretch out that long. Thanks for any and all input.
