this may seem a bit overkill but is it me or have red steelies gotten outa hand.? i love them as much as the next HAMBer but next to pollished torq thursts[ inwhich i love too]they are everywhere. i have a black primed A truck but decided to run glossy black wheels with caps and rings along with the radiator glossy to match.... just something to think about.......

I felt the same way. I ran red steelies for nearly seven years and just change to gloss black. I replace the 15'ers with 16's. I'm really pleased with the new look. Next I'm going to get the rims striped red like the stocker had in the forties.

    Black,the new red.....
Both usually suits rods well(never liked red wheels and brown\red primer, though),but black on black is a killer combo. Way to go!

Yes. they are quite popular lately. Mabe some pinstripe added to your wheel's, to break up the black.

Hot rods have been resale red since I can remember.
I'll never get tired off any red on a hotrod. No matter how many I see. I do like to see the apple green ford color on them too. I do love the old wires even better though.

red wheels are fine if you have red acents on the rest of the car or just have a little red poking out from under your full caps.i am tired of seeing red wheels on every other primer or flat black car.

    just my 2 cents

i never said that i did not like them its just that i felt like they were becoming the "von dutch" of hot rod goodies. some are doing it just cause. its not that they know or under stand the history behind it.

  13. My grandpa used to paint his axles red too, along with the brake drums and stuff underneath. Rustoleum, with a brush.

Personally, I think it's overkill. But you can't get more oldschool than what Grandpa used to do.

This was on a 32 PU his folks bought brand new, and he said the thing was a POS cause it used about a quart of oil a day, brand new. Of course, he was only like 12 at the time, but his parents used it (him) to make runs to Canada for things you couldn't buy over here at the time... [IMG]

I like red wheels on certain cars, but not every car looks good with them, dig? There's an Edsel here in town I've been trying to get ahold of for a couple years, it's faded *** black, with faded *** red wheels, but it looks so right.

    My 2 cents.

A warning for those who think red wheels are cool. I painted mine red and had three flat tires the first trip.

    I blame the red!

Someone was trying to tell me something.

Bobbleed and Tuck (bodymen) think they're "Pink"...!

Shifts had a lot of that color laying around in his shop and all of his wheels get the same treatment...!

"Lavender" is the "New Red"...! [IMG]

Had bright green on my black Sonoma, got red on my Black full size, cream on my wife's blue Blazer (gonne repaint 'em copper this winter!) and my T bucket has bright blue.....the red looks the best of 'em all!! If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is and make it better.

My old 40 coupe has had RED steelies for 20 years or more.

And my 32 has had them for over 10 years [IMG]

I love red steelies........ but like you, I believe they have been over done. They look great on black cars and some red cars.............not everything with wheels.

Black and red have just always been hot rod colors. I don't get sick of them as long as you see them on the right car. They don't quite work on your grandma's '66 four door Valient though. [IMG]

Another picture of the roadster with the "red wheels of doom" for skipstich.
And a former Hambers car with black wheels just changed over from red.

I'm a closet red steelie fan.

Is there a 12-step program for that? [IMG]

I agree they don't belong on every old car, but I like them on alot of stuff.

Grumpy...you'll hafta attend 30 RWA [red wheel anonymous] meetings in 90 days and get your card signed...Don't forget to slap all the RWA stickers you can find on your back bumper. Ones like "Keep painting red; it works" and the like.
Here's my contribution to red wheels....white! [the new red]
