When we go out, we call it the "Tow Truck Run"......first one on the "hook" loses or er wins......I can't remember!

The run looks like fun, Before we added the Friday night dinner the all deuce run was nothing more than a banzai run for me.

We got up at 5 AM and fought Saturday morning traffic to reach our starting point 148 miles away, then the run to Blowing rock and back home, a total of 640 miles in one day, I decided at 6'4" tall and ridding in the small confines of a Deuce pickup ,something had to give.

Really a drive that beats you up starts to lose it's appeal.

I think the run you participated is about the right distance and eventually there are going to be break downs along the way.

    Thanks for posting. HRP

    Danny -

I envy you Hot Rodders that are retired and don't have to know (or care) what day of the week it is ;) :)

Unfortunately, I'm not yet retired :( ... so I figure out the day of the week each morning by reading the daily TJJ Blog.

If @Ryan (i.e., "the boss" aka Ryan Cochran) wrote the Blog, I know it's most likely a Monday or a Wednesday.

If @Jive-Bomber (i.e., Jay Ward) wrote the Blog, it must be either Tuesday or Thursday.

But if my young friend @J.Ukrop (i.e., Joey Ukrop) wrote the Blog, I know it must be Friday ... and I can start looking forward to the weekend! :D

    @Jive-Bomber Jay -

Thanks for your coverage of this year's Nor Cal Roadster Reliability Run!

Driving a Traditional Hot Rod (while enjoying the Northern California scenery) is what it's all about!

I was happy to see that Brandon Flanner drove his '31 Roadster again this year:

I've always dug Brandon's roadster ... but didn't know the cool story behind it until last year when my friend Rudy Perez passed away ... see RIP ... Rudy Perez: The Fred Oberti Roadster.

"When his folks passed he sold the hiboy to someone in Petaluma, who put it back together."
That 'someone in Petaluma' was none other than Redbeard that puts on the reliability run. He sold the car on eBay to help put a down payment on his house. It went through two owners before landing with Brandon, who loves that car. And it's pretty fast too. He runs 80 mph + on freeways all day long.

You have officially cracked the Jalopy Journal writing schedule code... The only exception is if it's a 3 day weekend and I forget the Tuesday post, then you will usually see me Wednesday/ Thursday.

Nothin ever breaks down parked in the garage. Gotta see how far from home you can get first.
Then when you fix it proper - you can go a little further next time. Some times it's the friends That gather to help that really make the good memories.

This is what a rod run should be. Breakdowns and all. I remember when it was. Hope those who read this post do too. It was fun in those days. Truly rare today.

Great Photos of a great event. I think we need a lot more of that kind of event. A loop that can be done in four or five hours, a few great photo opp stops, interesting roads and a good place to stop for lunch.
The story reminds me of my younger brother and his jeep 45 years ago, Half the time he would call me in the morning to go get the trailer and go and load the broken jeep up and haul it back so we could repair it. His stories were usually something like = Got stuck twice, it took two hours to get out the second time, almost rolled it once, Spun the key out of the rear axle and had to limp out out of the hills on front wheel drive. Boy did we have fun.

    Great story, thanks for sharing.

Couldn't agree more. I am not allowed on this run due to the unfortunate installation of an SBC in my roadster ! But Dave, aka: Redbeard, also puts on the Reliability Run later in the year. An equally great run for (if I remember right) pre 1939 cars. With no engine restrictions ! He is responsible for quite possibly the two best Nor Cal events. The man deserves an award.

I hope I hear about the reliability run before it happens. I met Dave (Redbeard) at the Luau for the Lowdown in San Pedro several years ago. He drove his coupe down for the event. I will install the solid hood sides to hide my small block. This is my kind of rod run.
