Maybe this was started some time ago or in fact maybe it's always been around and I never paid any attention ? I,m talking about ( top cog V-belts) To clarify type in # DAC-17430. Allegedly they are more flexible ,increase air flow ,run cooler ,last longer ,less slippage etc . I am not a physics major but these seem to me that they would be better than the conventional V belts with inside cogs that we have all used. Am I behind times or what ?? Gene in Mn

I expect any difference would be negligible....but if you like it, buy it

You can cut a piece of plastic from an oil jug and mount it so it rubs on the cogs. Makes that "real blower drive" sound without all the expense. Keep the hood shut.

Those type of belts have been around for a long time.

  5. I’m sure that’s all true, more flexible , less friction , less heat less slippage longer life .

but HOW MUCH more efficient are they ?

if the cost is the same then sure why not , I would not pay a premium for it.

I dunno- of you absolutely must have a belt with grooves in this is a better bet than one than has the grooves on the inner edge- if they aren't wide enough for the pulley they whine with the most irritating noise.

At least that Dayco type should give a bit of a warning when it's about to fall apart by ****tering squares of rubber all over.

Should cost less. You're getting less belt

I've run them simply because they were the "good" belt where I bought the belts rather than a cheaper house brand. I couldn't tell you that they ran cooler or lasted longer though. Just that I felt that the Dayco was a better belt than the house brand.
I've run plenty of the other brand with the notches in the V side too but never hunted for one or the other when I went belt looking because of the notches. The choice was simply because the brand was one that I had had very little trouble with over the years.

That said, I really haven't had any problems with the house brand cheapies that I can do***ent. I only run them when the parts house doesn't have the "good" one but outside of maybe not lasting as long I haven't had an issue with them.

I've ran both styles, never seen any difference in wear or life of either. I did notice that when my local parts store changed warehouses, they went from Gates to Dayco. Gates has always seemed to last longer than Dayco to me. The cheapos seem to last as long as Dayco a lot of the time.
