I sure hope they have improved the quality from when I bought mine. I had to buy a 40 dollar long reach die to go up inside and match the holes inside with the pipes on the outside. The slot on the rear wasnt cut, so after they put the expensive coating on, I had to ruin it to install the header, then after a year it blew through a weld and had to be redone. They were terrible and have since been sold. I really hope you have better luck.

**** Ole don! bummer experience with them!

I put them on our 53 last year and LOVE them! Look cool and really opened it up. I had "red" step the ends of mine out to 2"...have 2"exhaust all the way back with Brockman Mellotones on her...

Bigshawn...the only thing I did was bought a pack of actual "header bolts" and then ended up having to cut a box-end wrench in half to get certain ones tight. That's it!

    Hope they work for you!

i dont know what it is with these places were I live went to 3 different places today 1 muffler shop said they dont install headers told me to go get the headers on then they could do the pipes . wont go back to them went to a garage and he said he couldnt do it because my car was to low for his lift and the other place I went to is the guy Iwho usually works on my car when I cant or dont want to crawl under it said he would do it but they all said It would be loud with the lakes pipe dont they understand how good a flathead sounds

    Hmm Strange!
I did have my headers already on when I brought mine to the exhaust shop, and I also already had my buddy weld the 3-bolt exhaust flanges on them. So they were ready to go. Then if I want to ever take the exhaust off for something, I can, and leave the headers on.

I took the other two flanges (to mate up to the header flanges) to and exhaust shop and the guy there quoted me $200 to put it all on. Cool...
However when I picked it up, he said it turned out to be a real B!t3H to do, and wouldn't do it again for any less than $400. But he honored his original quote, so I was happy.

Flatty's do sound nice! To loud??? I don't think anything is ever too loud... What does he care anyway?! He's not going to drive it.

If you were closer you'd have the whole job done now, and properly.

wish you were closer too . Im so frustrated with these yo yo's today It will probably be for the best that I do the headers myself since these guys didnt seem interested the flex pipe will just be temporary until I can find a guy who wants some business and seems into it

Shawn... try action muffler... they work on alot of old stuff... also, running just the lakes really wont be that loud unless you get on it, I run only lakes on my 292 and its not too bad.

Seriously, turn away a paying customer because his car is too low for the lift? These guys must be rolling in business. Jeez, what shop worth their beans doesn't have some wood blocks laying around for just such an issue?

Now you're being to logical and business minded. Better to sit around waiting for the easy jobs, and while you're waiting, ***** about no work coming in........

Had a similar issue a few years ago with my '87 TurboCoupe. Took it to one of the local Muffler joints to have the complete dual system replaced. I looked out in the shop, only one car on the hoist and 2 empty bays... The guy hmmm'd & hawed around then told me the parts were no longer available for it.

I went down to OReillys; had everything for it within 3 days.

I guess the economy really is that bad.

ron.. did you go back and show him the bag/box of unavailable parts? then show him the reciept where the guy down the street made all your unavailable parts work.

had a similar deal with a 99 ram 1500. something in the front suspension, dont recall now needed replaced. a shop near where i work quoted me 300 bucks plus parts. said i would shop around. went to a garage i had never used on recommendation of a freind, he quoted me 60 bucks an hour labor whether it took an hour or not plus parts. i got the part for 40 bucks, he had the special wrench and lift i didnt have and had me out of there in less than half an hour. i thought about getting said spec tool and doing it at home, but said tool was over 100.

needless to say, this guy gets all my business now.

Yeah, I would like to see some videos of some of you guys rides so I could hear the difference everyone talks about between mufflers and engines.
