I'd be glad to help with any images you need. I'm only new here but if I can help I'd like to.

I just bought an unchopped 32 5 window and have uploaded many shots into my album.

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=10927

Have a look and if you need extreme close ups of anything just let me know and I'll crop tightly at full resolution.

I haven't actually taken posession of the car yet but when I do I'll be only too happy to go and take a shot of anything you need. It's not pristine but I'd call it "pretty solid". I should have it in my garage within 7 days. It's a tough wait.

    Hi 32 convo...

as for rear quarters, it's a little known fact that 31 ford vicki and 32 five window quarters both have the same rear wheelwell beauty/beltline. I know that's alos like finding a needle in a haystack, but hey you never know. Your body condition was almost identicle to mine. Check out my pics I dont know if they will help any...

So just a little update for my 5w. I took it to our shop (The Lords Layer) so that it can slowly get pieced back together.

What we are thinking right now is that in conjunction with the two quarters that I just got I should really get a Decklid as well as the two panels that go above and below it. That way we'll be able to semi square the body up and start building a sub structure to keep the body from tweaking. I know some of you suggested that I get an original firewall, original frame and a pair of original rear fenders but that's not really in the budget and since I really don't know anyone in the are with a '32 I kind of am SOL there.

SUBRAILS- Mcpherson has subrails for the '32 5w that I think are cheaper then Brookvilles but I am still thinking that making my own might be an option. (UPDATE!!! Just called McPherson and he said that they sold the dies for the 5w to someone who never went through into production so as of right now there is now 5w exclusive subrails.) I guess my two options are Brookville or make my own now.

Anyone have pics of roadster subrails reworked to fit 5w's?

INNER DOOR FRAMES- I am not sure what I am going to do there but I know that because of my money constraints I am going to probably make my own skeleton to weld new door skins to. I have some I can save from the inside but the bottom is pretty much gone. Howell's inner door patches?

Lastly for now, what are your thoughts on making a lot of the bracing? Is it sacrilegious not to get a '32 "correct"? What about the roadster bracing? IS it pretty much the same as a 5w? I wish Brookville had detailed pics of each part so that I could compare and contrast to what's already in this thread.

    Wish us luck!

I suggest finding and buying a pair of front doors for a 32 four door. They are basically the same as 5W except the tops. Put your 5W tops on the 4 door bottoms and call it done. :D That way you would have door latches, regulators and all the window workings ...

Yeah I figure that's probably the best way is to just let Daemon work his magic. I do know that Daemon does not want to work on Wednesdays on that thing due to how many people will be around. You can alway crack the whip on my slow ass though with everything else in my life if you'd like.

Wish I could attend Amelia Island this weekend!!!!

#1 if the car aint gonna have fenders you dont have to be strict on the stock measurements. id make sure the car is square and not bulged in the middle but if it hangs an extra 1/4 over the frame it aint gonna hurt anything.

#2 build the body on the frame you are going to use, they are all different a little

#3 build your own subrails, if you buy some your gonna end up modifying them anyways so why wast your $$, start by makeing the subrails, mounting the cowl to that, then hang the doors then hang the back half of the body, your doors need to fit the cowl and the quarters need to fit the doors.

#4 are the doors nice from the belt line up? cause thats the hard part, the inner doors jambs are acutally pretty easy to make, you might find some 4 door doors, but they are gonna need work too, and cost money, so again, save some make and fix yours.

All good info and I'm going to put it all to use. Thanks buddy! Now the question is to channel or not channel the car.....hmmmmm

There's something in the water up there in the PNW isn't there? Lead? "Love Canal" type spillage? Your oversized boyfriend CHRIS said something similar.:D

  20. Channel it!
I am in a similar boat to you, I have to keep reminding myself that I am building a HOT ROD not doing a resto!

I agree 100% with what Titus said.

The sides of the lower doors are nothing fancy. I used 31 Dodge inner door skins, as well as the jamb side so I could use Dodge latches & strikers. I went with Dodge hinges, too. I used a hamb thread about Cherokee window regulators, but I used newer ones that are smaller and easy to fit in there. '97-'01 . I even made my own window track guides from square tubing with one side cut off.

You can get the body "front to back" pretty close without a stock firewall. Like 1/8" or less error max. Mine ended up 1/16" off...I got a firewall after I finished the rails and floor. I set my homemade rails up with 1/2" bolts that fit snug in the stock 32 frame holes, but after I finally got the firewall, I had to use 7/16" bolts to get them all back in.

One thing that slowed me up was the whole area right around front of the trunk lid...mine was squished down a bit, and it took a while to realize it was.

That gets squished down on an old channeled car that was not braced correctly, and also might get squished if the whole car is rotted and then gets manhandled moving it around. If it is pushed down a bit, it messes up the deck lid fit a lot....and could cause the quarters to bow outwards a bit.

My car was also wracked about 3/4", meaning one side of the car was ahead of the other side.

You would crap if you saw what I started with

Channeled five windows are fun. Custom floors and subrails are fairly straight forward and cheap to make with a few tools. My old coupe was completely gutted when I got it. I made the floors and subrails out of 16 gauge and worked out slick with the channel.

    Yeah that's very true.

Don't let that pic fool you. This is thee roughest body I have ever seen. I have yet to see a worse one but I am up for the challenge as I have some really great friends that are willing to lend a hand. My friend Daemon is going to be handling the revival of this body. Sit back and be prepared to watch a wizard at work!

^^^^^JalopyKid, your old coupe is one of those I stare at and makes me want to channel it^^^^ That thins just makes the car as a whole look so much smaller and "tighter" ya know? Love it!
