Refresh existing front end or swap in new?

I realize this is probably one of those "do you want" type questions, but Im looking to just bounce this off of people to give me more to think about.

I have a 39 chevy sedan, Im debating keeping the existing front suspension and refreshing it, or swapping in StangII Ifs.

The biggest con I can think of to keeping the existing suspension is the unusual shocks. I can get new ones, but Im not sure how they will hold up with an SBC under the hood weighing things down.

I intend to convert to disc brakes and add power steering if those factor in significantly.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts in this area?

I would not put any money in updating the original front end. We've been replacing them since the 60s. At one time the Corvair was a big thing for an easy replacement front end. Then the Mustang II was the hot lick.
one problem with the MII Chevys is that the bottom of the boxed frame is lighter than the the rest of the frame and the strut rod mounts would often break the bottom plate. They may have a new cure for that problem that was only a Chevy problem
