I used epoxy black primer on my car with the intention of color painting it later. 6 years later I have not chosen a color and probably won't for a while. Problem is, the black primer has faded. - looks ok when wet. What can I do to temporarily darken it up? Armor-All would work but I do not want silicone to soak into the primer. Diesel fuel would work but it stinks. mineral oil- KY jelly what do you all think?...................MO
Mothers has a product called "Back to Black" wonder how that might work ?? Just a thought. Edit : Kill that idea, it's for plastic and rubber etc. !
my 54 is light blue suede and I clean it using westley's tire bleach. no idea how it will work on black but its been 5 years and no chalking on my primer.
Keep in mind that practically anything you do put on it will make painting an absolute bitch in the future.
I know a guy with a '40 Plymouth coupe who has been driving it in black primer for over 50 years. Whenever someone asks when he's going to paint it he always says he hasn't decided on a color yet.....
The paint has oxidized. It will be necessary to sand to a solid paint and then re-prime. If you do anything else it will be necessary to completely strip the finish beforen you can paint it in the future.
