OK, I'm going to try to get over to meet Mr. Pittman this Sunday. I would like to let him know about the HAMB and about the people on it. Ya know, let him know that there are still a lot of people out here who remember who he is and what he has done. I'll print out this post and take it with me, so...do you have any memories of seeing him blast down the quarter mile in one of those wild orange cars of his? Lets hear 'um. Do you have a picture of you and him at some track or show somewhere? Scan it and get it on here. Got a Willys or G***er style car? How 'bout a pic and a description? Or mabe just jump in and say howdy. All I ask is that you get your post in before like this Friday afternoon so I can print it out at work before I go home. (My printer at home pretty much ****s.) Thanks all!
K.S. Pttman...."Ohio" George Montgomery...Stone, Woods and Cook.....True legends......And they will always be remembered....
Hey, mr. pittman I really enjoy watching the old g***er war footage of you and stone woods and cook , heads up racing, I know who is going to win, but it is still exciting. Here is a pic of my 38 willys P/u that I thought you would enjoy seeing. MATT
..............from the little I know, the man is STILL bad***! In the early 90's, Johnny Rocca (sp?) was campaigning the Stone, Woods & Cook Willys along with K.S. and his Willys. A buddy of mine, Lindsey Scott was wrenching on one of the cars. I hadn't seen Lindsey in years. I ran up on him at a Good Guys show in Carlisle, PA. While talking with him, Mr. Pittman came out of the trailer and Lindsey introduced us. ( I'm SURE he remembers? ) Not long after, I read an article about the two cars and their tour. It mentioned about them supposed to be running an exhibition somewhere and they were supposed to just make a couple easy p***es........of course.........K.S. was doing smoking, crossed up p***es!!! Guess you can take the man out of drag racing, but you can't take the drag racing outta' the man!!!
Got a picture of K.S. in the 33. Been on my garage wall for 30 years. Never had the privilage of meeting K.S. but I've met Ohio George a couple times, once in the 60s and again 3 years ago, what a terrific guy.
I've been following this story, and felt compelled to walk over to the oldtimer here at work. We call him 'Gearbox.' His name is Tommy Gerhardt. He was the 'mayor' or US 30 Dragway in Gary, Indiana in the 70s... and knows most of the legends or has at least met them. He always has a good story or two about the good ole days. Some mornings he'll say, "Hey Mike, come here and look at this." Sometimes its an old magazine from the 60s... or a driver handout from the US Nationals... or maybe an old t-shirt... Well, I started telling him what is going on, but he already knew... he said he never had the pleasure of meeting KS but talked very highly of him. He ranks him right up there with Big John, and the S.W.C. boys. In my book, that speaks volumes. I'm too young to have ever seen the greats run... but can live them through Tommy's stories. Sounds like I missed a good time. Best of luck to you, Mr Pittman, and thanks.
Hey Mister, I got your autograph way back when I was a kid. I think your partly to blame for me wanting to build this beast, the 51 Studeg***er. Thanks and take care.
got to meet ya at thompson at the g***er reunion ....til then i only had seen pics in old magazines that i had collected over the years.....its pretty cool to meet a person after seeing them and their cars for so long....a lot of neat stuff ....thanks for providing a LOT of cool memories and images that will last a life time.....thanks brandon
Most people dream, some people live the dream. KS Pittman dreamt it - lived it- and ****ed it through the injectors and spat it out the headers. Mr Pittman - I take my hat off to you - you are a living Fu***in Legend. Best of luck with your health. You have made a lot of people happy with your 4 wheeled exploits. Best regards Bob Australia
That last bloke (BobbedT) said it real nice. One thing though, he might live in Australia, but he's still a POM! I'm also too young, but through many years of reading new and old hot rod magazines, I too had heard of the legend of KS Pittman and his Willys... that doesn't sound quite right. Anyway, G'Day from Australia. You are Sir, most definitely a legend!
I remember that in addition to going fast with a good looking car you managed to dress sharp and keep your hair well groomed. 100% style. Some guys have it.
Mr Pittman , I owe a liftime of fun , my living and tons of memeory's to you and your generation of drag racers , I saw you and some of the other famous racers run at a g***er compe***ion in 1964 or so with my Dad and Uncle, soon thereafter I bought a AMT Willy's double kit and I was off and running, building kits of all the famous cars of the day ,this continued until i was old enough to start working on my own real cars .After that it was my p***ion and living eventually ,building rods and drag cars in my spare time ,over the last several years I continue to build cars at a much more relaxed level only for fun. My hat is off to you , SWC, JR. and all the other STARS of the gas cl***es , you brought drag racing up from out of the hoodlum level and brought national attention and acceptance to what is now a very large part of american life and Icon , Drag racing is now world wide due in no small part to your generation of racers, THANK YOU! Mike Landwehr
I'm sure K.S. is familiar with this car. One of Pittman's cars is in the back room at the Garlit's Museum. John
