I've had a couple encounters with Reggie at BJ auction over the years and he is nothing short of a complete butt hole. He has some nice cars bur his arrogance is overwhelming. Even if I had the money I wouldn't buy his shit just on principle.

Welcome to the world of real magnesium, polish, polish, polish if not they turn gray. Not that its a bad thing, lots of guys like em gray but certain color cars look better with shiny wheels. Did I mention you have to keep polishing magnesium?

Not that I really care but you took me a bit out of context, I look at the Brizio site a lot, You are right not all Brizio cars are gold chainers cars. I do think that a guy who goes to the auction and buys a car that has a reserve of $130,000 most likely has a gold chain around his neck. Couldn't you build one hell of a car with a buck thirty, wouldn't you absolutely relish every minute of building a car that had a buck thirty budget? I think it would suck to be able to buy and sell like Reggie, seems like nothing is ever special.

Really don't care if he's an A Hole or not.
All I do know is he sure "Stepped Up to the plate" 5 years ago @ BJ and hit a "Home Run" when he bought this 1 from me.

Maybe, but I don't think the economey affects people that can shell out 100k for a car in one lump sum.

That is one bad Willys! Reggie has owned some dynamite cars. Brizio may be viewed as gold chainer materiel, but I sure like their stuff!

  9. I never understood how the high dollar cars fit into hot rodding. I want to be able to build a car for 15 to 20K that will melt the tires and I'll drive it anytime anywhere I want to. Reggie Jackson is no more a hot rodder than Bill Gates. I think there are some true hot rodders who also have boatloads of money but Reggie is not one of them. His cars bring big bucks partly because they are his cars. Give me Jay Leno any day over Reggie, at least in the big money catagory. At least Jay admits he's the president of the " more money than brains club " ( which I don't agree with, Jay is VERY knowledgable in everything automotive ). $130,000, If I had that I'd build 8 cars, not 1!!!

Thank you. Not to start a pissing contest, but these real highbuck Hotrods, are to me a contradiction in terms. I kind of resent the guys who were" soccer players" earlier now trying to buy their way into a sort of really neat, mostly do it your self deal with history you can't create with money...Still like old Jay though...[IMG]

  11. People that have that kind of money tend to see these cars as investments just like gold or the stock market, when the economy is down so are the prices of these cars, that is all I am saying. Buy low- Sell hi.

I disagree with this in overall principle, but at mid to low-mid levels it sort of holds water. In the ponds I play in from time to time there's quite a few "big fish". When the economy's down their cars go up. Not right away, but they tend to eek up just a bit at a time. The thing about it is you don't see it on TV auctions and as a spectator at a high-end auction. As time goes on and things pick up across the board, those that hold on or bought the mid level stuff low will make out on the new found excitement. Aesthetics aside all of these things are tangible assets. A hotrodder on this board with his Model A coupe has a tangible asset. Something real tht you can feel and smell. They're never "paper money".

Back on topic, I tend to agree with the idea that it was "Reggie's car" and unless a detached newb with a fist full of dollars was hot for it a high price may never be realized. Most all of us here live this stuff and have that mindset that it's what the guy built, or some flat out don't care and would like to have it. What I really agree with is that an unrestored car with potential has a magic vibe to it. The experience of taking an artifact and bringing it back to life is an expensive one. It's like that exclusive expedition or safari that costs 6 figures. To get it and take it there is not for the "faint of wallet" and to those who have it, sometimes they don't care. Does anyone think that the Foose "Impression" would ever bring what it took to build? The difference in the sale price and the build price would be the cost of the experience.

  13. I've been in the musclecar game for awhile, and in that circle, Reggie is known as someone who does not represent his cars truthfully. He has had more than one owner come back after the sale who found out the hard way that the car he bought from Reggie was not what it was claimed to be. Case in point: Reggie had a 'Fathom Green 69 Camaro ZL-1 (#27 of 69 produced) that he sold at Barrett Jackson a few years ago. The car was sold as a "rebodied" car because the original body was botched up by a chassis shop in the early '70s. The ONLY part of the car that was original to the ZL-1 was the cowl tag (riveted to the dash). Everything else on the car was a hodge-podge collection of sourced parts that had undergone a very nice restoration. Essentially, the car was a fake. I know who the second owner was and he confirmed every bit of the information. The car went on the block and bidding moved along and stalled at $205K. Craig Jackson (another snake-in-the-grass...) stopped the bidding and had Reggie come up on stage and tell everybody about the car. After the arrogant SOB gushed about how nice the car was, the bidding continued, and Reggie stood next to one of his buddies and had him bid the car up because there were a couple of interested bidders. His buddy had NO intention of buying the car, his job was to fluff up the bid and essentially sucker punch the other bidders into a bidding war. That's called Shill Bidding, which is illegal, and in some cases will get your ass beat into a coma. He's on national TV whispering into his buddy's ear and fluffing the bid!! Meanwhile, Craig Jackson is loving it because he's getting paid from both ends, the seller's premium and the buyer's premium. The car winds up at $290K, and later, the new owner finds out the real story and wants his money back. A real bad deal.

In the collector car world, Reggie Jackson is treated like damaged goods. No matter what he's got for sale, it 'aint what it seems. He's an arrogant asshole, a liar, and a cheat. The real pros in the musclecar game wouldn't buy a pack of gum from the guy because it's probably stale. Ever wonder all of his "priceless" cars weren't in the warehouse when it caught fire in Oakland years ago? Hmmmm.........

I don't doubt the Willys is nice, because Roy does really nice work. I think that deal stalled because of who owned it. Ask anybody who's ever had a dealing with Reggie, and they all say the same thing. You'll never meet a bigger asshole in your life. PERIOD.

It seems to me that people with liquid money see cars in general as a sound investment for the simple reason that there is something in front of you that can be enjoyed and most of all, not manipulated by bankers or wall street.

If anything, collector cars have pretty much held their own. sure, there are plenty of guys hurting and selling cars for cheap, but it is definately not following the housing market numbers.

Reggie's Willys looks pretty cool to me.
