Bought me a lincoln in CT . car is not running and driving . Has no registration or paperwork. To get it pass the customs i need a registration. Which is the best way to go in CT to get a title/registration??? thanks in advance Al
If the car is over 10 years old, CT does not recognize/issue a title. Bill of sale and vin check will get it done. If the car was purchased in CT, vin check can be done at an emissions center in CT, if purchased out of state you may need to go to a DMV office for vin check. Big fun. That’s the way it was in my recent experiences but you will want to go on line to the CT DMV website to see how it is right now with the Covid situation.
Connecticut also has a form titled " Bill of sale for an untitled vehicle " You can get one from the Connecticut Motor Vehicle Department.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here, I'm thinking the OP is over in Europe and probably needs an outreach and a bit of effort from a car guy who lives in CT.
Here's a long shot and admittedly a bit of a grey area. Have the seller check the glove compartment for any old registration paperwork, does not need to be current. Then have them make out a bill of sale with you as the buyer and whatever name on the registration as the seller. That should be sufficient paperwork for your needs. It worth mentioning that you can't get a new registration without either a title or previous registration from the seller. If you don't have either of those you need a bill of sale and vin check. For a new CT registration also need insurance and to pay state sales tax. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The Dmv is appointment only right now due to Covid 19 and is booked solid. Ive been trying to register a trailer for months. Registration by mail is at least 4 weeks out if you trust sending them your paperwork. Best bet once your paperwork is in order is to have a dealer register it. There are car dealers who offer this service on the CT DMV website.
