This was the OP's first post and I wonder if he's a HAMBer or a fisherman looking for a quick sale. In any case, the whole discussion is moot until he gets back to use with what the California DMV told him.

Well, we're 5 days out and no word from the OP. I guess he didn't like our simple answer: ask and listen to the California DMV.

  3. The serial number is on the ch***is. It should match the ***le. or if you still have the original mill it is also on the motor near the distributer.

A one-post-wonder. I guess he did not get the answer that he was looking for, or did not really want one.

One more damned time, Chevy trucks did not have a ******** serial number on the frame, when will you Ford guys knock that nonsense off?
42 has a serial number on the tag on the firewall, a different engine serial number on the block and a different yet serial number on the trans and none ever come close to matching each other.
If the op had what was left of the original engine and the serial number jived with 42 truck engine block serial numbers he would have a leg up on getting things done. In a lot of states that was the number used as a Vin. Then he could get an ***igned vin number attached where ever the state attaches it and life would be good.

Now look down on the pfd from Chevrolet showing where the serial numbers on a 42 Pickup actually are and see if you can spot the one on the frame. 42 chevy serial number locations.png

He said he has the ***le. That alone makes it a fairly simple deal with the DMV.

He has "a" ***le. Whether or not he has "the" ***le remains to be seen. But it looks like we won't find out.

I had a pink slip with m Henry J. Still have it after registering it. It has the engine number, which does not match anything.

  10. My 41 did. At least the KS State trooper said that it did when he was deciding if it should be impounded when the motor (292) did not match the ***le. Of course he could have been lying, I never actually trusted cops personally.

You of all people should know that I am not a ford man. So one last time ******** (what does that actually mean anyway) wake up.

There is nothing simple about this.

He has a decorative piece of paper. On it it says "***le".

The identification number on it is not reflected in any place on the vehicle.

If that decorative piece of paper and the vehicle were ever linked, that link has been severed.

The DMV, CHP, or anyone lawfully acting on the behalf of the State of California is required to see the aforementioned identification number in a permanently affixed manner, on the vehicle.

Every single DMV, and CHP office, etc., has a big book that indicates where every single identification number is to appear, back to the beginning of time. So yes, they know where it is supposed to be, and what it is supposed to look like.

At this point in time, with the way that the laws have tightened up (and YES they should have been tightened), what may have worked in the past is not likely to work now. Nobody is trying to stop hot rodding. The motive is to stop vehicle theft, and VIN swapping. Like when a cashed-out six-figure insurance auction wreck suddenly becomes brand-new, and there is another car missing, etc.

I guess we should view these One Post Wonders: "What's It Worth?" and "How Do I Register?" as entertainment, because they never come back and follow up. Do you think the Mods put these up just to keep us busy and out of trouble? :)
