Hi all, I live up North in Finland, Europe. Due to long dark winter we have plenty of time to build our machines while we drive in summer. I'm soon 40 and have played with vehicles all the time. My main career has been working with U.S. car parts for fifteen years before I changed to my current post in our local H-D dealer few years ago. My car hobby started early 80's with interest in drag racing and muscle cars but I soon turned older and older models all the time. I've always done my rides nearly completely on my own. I include here only few pictures because I've never bothered to purchase a camera. I'd rather buy parts with that money too! '48 Fleetline I built mid 90's has a Camaro clip, SBC,Th350,10-bolt etc. '28 Chevy roadster all steel, stock frame, Nova rear, power discs front, 283 tunnel ram, th350 etc. and on process is '29 Ford Tudor with hopped flat four. I just got today new whitewall big'n'lil's for it.
Welcome, The more Fins the better I say! Where in Finland are you from? Helsinki? Tampere? Turku? Nice rides, I'd love to see the sedan with the new wheel/tire combo.
Welcome! I used to work for Fin. company based in Espoo. Great guys but none of them were into hotrods or cool cars. They did do a lot of drinking... I geuss that's just as good.
How is the junkyard situation in Finland? I ran across a site in Sweden a couple of years ago that had tons of junkyard photos showing stuff like 33-34 Ford coupes, and even one 32 Ford cabriolet. I was ready to sell blood and travel to Sweden, but the guy at the web site would never answer any of my emails asking for locations and phone numbers.
Well, here's the true answer for your question: 33-34 Fords and especially 32 are extremely rare here in Finland. Model A's can be found from the restorers or collectors but lying in the junkyards! Hell no!
Oh,well. I too old to be getting that excited anyhow. Ever check out the junkyards in Sweden? It would be great to see junkyard photos from Europe.
In Finland or Sweden is no much junkyards with old stuff left because the weather causes rapid corrosion. In Finland also the most 30's destroyed during WW II and here was almost no new car import before 1952 because laws after war. Until 1983 we had a stupid law and it was impossible to import any kind of used car from anywhere. (It is again so with newer cars, no later than 1998 without EU inside regulations allowed.) My '48 was a project car import 1987 from FL, '28 was project from CA 1988. I built those here. '29 Tudor is originally sold in Sweden 29, left in storage 1958, rebuilt to stock and registered there again 2004. I imported it to Finland june 2004 and started modifying it slightly. The some cars with Finnish history I've have had include 1934 Chevy Master 4D and 1951 Fleetline 2D were extremely sad cond when found. Many rods and kustoms built here have been built demanded tremendous amount of work from their creators.
