History Reliability Runs - who started them and when?

    Hey fellow HAMBers, I had a bit of a look around and can't see any other thread discussing this, so I thought I'd ask you all if you know who/what club did the very first reliability run and when that was?

    The New York to Paris run was in 1908. More "proof of reliability "than a race.

    Honestly every outing was a reliability run in the early days! Guarantee that something was going to break/fail/drop off along the way

    This is a link to a PBS program about the Old Ridge Route over the Grapevine linking Los Angeles to Bakersfield. Its pretty long but lots of very interesting history of early travel by car. The road opened in 1915. No hot rods but Model T's navigating the road along with many historical photos and info on the construction of the road itself.

    Not first but Mark Morton's HOP UP runs, if you were one of his 18 readers, were epic.
