So did my Dad. When he died in 2002, I had a heck of a time to get the VA to get the paperwork correct so his gravestone would bear the Army symbol because they had his date of birth as 1921 when it was really 1922.
Them were some tough kids...real tough

So did my grandfather... boy wasn't his mom PISSED! The stories he did share with me made my ****hole pucker up tighter than a snare drum. It made me wonder about the stories he didn't want to share.
My hat's off to those guys.

I agree, to much is taken for granted these days. God Bless all of those who have fought and sacrificed so that we could enjoy the freedoms we do.

Modern media is too busy reporting "Entertainment News" to cover anything of importance.

My father would not talk about his WW2 Navy experiences in the Pacific. He was a tough one and I never saw him cry, but one night in the 50s we were watching a WW2 TV do***entary, and he threw up when he saw a ship torpedoed. That said it all.

    God bless every veteran.

Looks like the news has declined to remember the Day Of Infamy. I guess they might offend someone if they did. 9-11 might offend someone so I guess they will have to stop mentioning it also. Makes you wonder where this nation is headed.

Here are a couple of vets we honored last month in Montgomery. The first picture is of Mr. Chamberland who was blown off the Neveda on December 7th and is one of the few survivors left The second picture is Mr. Chamberland again and Mr Tippen who fought in nam. We owe these vets so much for all they have done.

They already have toned down on 9-11 stuff. Heck they won't even call the attack at Fort Hood an act of terrorism, which it was.

I had a friend who was a Pearl Harbor survivor, he never talked about it.

I remember. I visited the USS Arizona memorial and it was indeed a very moving experience, especially seeing elderly veterans kneeling down and touching the engraved names of the friends they lost.

Lets also not forget what the Greatest Generation left us-a peaceful and prosperous Japan and Germany; democratic nations that get what they need through international trade instead of war. They did it by nurturing democracy in those nations after the war. I think maybe that's why their sacrifice is remembered and honored more than the generations that came after.

  15. I wasn't alive of course but after that day Dad joined the Navy and Mom went to work building tanks.

what gets my goat is that the ME generation, could give a rats ***. they are more interested in twittering, text messaging and being pretty damn stupid when it comes to what's going on in the world. if this country is going to survive, we need to re-set what really is important, God, Country, Family. ok-i feel better now.

I visited the memorial about 20 yrs ago, and yes it is a very solemn place to be at. Even seeing pictures of what went on there, I still can't begin to imagine what it was really like on that day.

  19. I still hate them for the attack, and I wasnt even born yet.I thank my folks generation for what they did for us and then came home and gave us HOT RODs made outa american cars!!!...........

  22. Guys as an Aussie, Im ASTOUNDED that there isnt any mention of Pearl Harbour - "A Day that will live in Infamy" in your media....

    To me that is INSANE.....

    LEST WE FORGET.

God bless all the Vets and their families who paid the ultimate price.

    Rat

  23. Meatball. The people responsible for the attack on Pearl Harbour are dead. All of them. Hate them all you want, but remember always that they are dead.

Now, if you wish to visit the sins of the father on his sons, you have more issue than I care to confront. But, do think how you would feel if YOUR father's sins were blamed on you.

One more: How many wars back do you go with your hate?? Do you hate the French?? The South?? The British?? The Indians??

    Let it go.

my pop was another one who signed up before he was old enough. ended up in Japan and came home with a purple heart from getting tagged with shrapnel from an explosion. brought home a Japanese flag, a luger and a couple swords.

he told my brother once about shooting a flame thrower into the bushes and lighting a bunch of people on fire. another story about dropping a grenade into a tank and shutting the hatch and blowing that guy up. no telling what else he did or saw.

...as for the news media, they are more concerned with how many wimmen Tiger Woods has banged

Very true. My ship made a visit in '91 and The Arizona Memorial was a must see. In fact our captain TOLD us we should go to see it. It was very moving, but perhaps the most interesting thing was finding out that the ship is still a commissioned battleship. And there's a very slow oil leak that still comes up from The Arizona. One drop every few seconds or so. A must see for anyone who goes to Hawaii. You look at the wall with the names of the sailors who died and you'll get a lump in your throat.

On a sad note, today at the VA Hospital here.... no mention what so ever. But everyone had ideas on how many chicks Tiger Woods was boinking. We're becoming a sad nation when we start to forget our past.

My dad (still alive and kickin'!!) was on the baby aircraft carrier Makin Island in the South Pacific during the war.

He was only 16 YEARS OLD!!!

Even though he said he was scared out of his mind when they were in battle, he's got bigger nuts than I'll ever have.

Debt of gra***ude to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice and thanks to the vets who comprise the greatest generation. Indeed.

Thanks to all the Vets out there, past, present and future. The stories my grandfather, his brothers, and a close family friend Louis Miller have told are just amazing. Sad, scary, adventurous, and downright hilarious in some cases.

I quote my grandfather every time I change the oil (or do anything, because it ****s to work on it) on my wife's Honda... "We kicked their *** one time and we've been paying for it ever since with these damn cars!" lol

Or another from Louis "Boy, they sure didn't know who they were ****in' with." hahaha
