I have a friend who's big into vintage road racing.
One of his cars had "sponsored by my children's inheritence" written on it

Hah! Years ago in an old junkyard in Ames Iowa, home of Iowa State University, there was a 48-52 Ford panel truck with Greek frat letters on the sides and "Don't laugh, your daughter might be in here" on the back doors.

About that same time frame in a different local junk yard there there was a pink 57 Ford with a sombrero and "Tijuana****** posse" painted on the doors.

But probably the funniest one was a 33 Plymouth coupe hot rod a local rodder bought back in the 70's that had "Diaper Rash" on the big deck lid. He repainted the car shortly after.

Yeah, I think when Billy, and the oldest son Bam Bam (?????), got tossed in the pokie for violating the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend, paid annually to State residents from oil, they should have put them ALL in jail, and then bounced them from the State afterwards. My wife's family is from WV. One of my neighbors calls ME a Hill Billie, because I occasionally work on my truck in the street in front of our house, and only because I need a step ladder and a flat surface (driveway's on an incline) (15 house cul-de-sac), and have street signs decorating our fence (car guy and all). But, she's the one with 2 non-op cars in the street, and has plastic tarping on her houses roof due to leaks (for 2 years now). She also had chickens for a while, that had the run of her HOUSE. Oh well, takes us all. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

"Balls to the wall, Ford" written between the tail lights on a dual quad 427 tunnel port, 4 speed, straight axle 1966 Fairlane. Used to run at our local 1/8 mile track back in the late 60's. Can still picture that car lifting the front end a good 3 to 4 feet in the air as the tree went green.

Now I'll be serious. I had a 53' 2 door 210 Chevy that had "For Your Love" hand painted on the 1/4 glasses.

Not wanting the gratuitous "You Lose","Follow Me", "Adios", "See Ya" on the back of my racer I knew I had to have something that would stick, give it an identity. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were indeed hot at the time so I thought, "Give It Away-Give It Away-Give It Away Now". Too many letters though, and being it's name was "The HIGHLANDER" (go figure) I decided on "Up Your...KILT!" There was big block Pinto once that said "Go Ahead, Make My Day". I was going to letter on my buddy's "N2O Laughing Matter" on the back of his nitrous fed racer, with the "2" nice n small. "Last Laff" was a 2nd choice. He stuck with "Dressed to Kill", and to this day, same name. Another bottle fed street racer, to this day, "Armed and Dangerous". A little screen shot of my racer's lid:

The whole car's O/T for the board, sorry...

  18. Sorry for the '67 OT Caddy but had to share my
wife's current ride. She wanted to make sure everyone knew
it was her car, not mine, and that I wouldn't want to drive
it unless she was in it!

  19. I hand painted, Mildred, on the trunk lid, of my school mates Morris Minor in the high school parking lot.
I thought it was gay, he loved it, now he's a transvestite, go figure.

The One that has always stood out to me, was 'where were you, in 62'
I remember seeing it on the back of a Ford Coupe, that had fenders.
I think it was in an American Hot Rod mag, maybe pic in black and grey.
Googled it, but didn't find it.
Did find something worthy to post, connected to, 'where were you, in 62' though. :D

I guess it was done. A fellow I know had some chick's name-Yo Yo on his 49 Ford Sedan.
It's fine on WWII airplane or a real race car but personally, for a street car, I find it very.....Uncool.

  22. LOL I wasn't sure that anyone would catch that. :D

Funny name for a bowling ball company isn't it. ;)

My friend and I when I was in high school had a '59 Chebby Impala with cragers on the rear and the biggest tires we could afford. We jacked the back of the car up to clear the tires (meats). A friends dad was a sign painter and lettered "The Big Meats" over the tires. I would say that it had double meaning but that would just be an out and out lie. :D

Had a kid in our high school who had "Toad" painted on the deck lid...he said it was because it was towed more miles than he had driven it!

My first car was a '40 Deluxe coupe in gray primer. When I started sanding it to get it painted I found light metallic green paint and "The Mint" lettered on the deck lid.
Names were very popular in the LAX area when I was young, especially with mild custom pick up trucks and weekend warrior drag cars. There was the "Pink Panther" a pink pearl F100, also "El Greengo" a pearl green w dark green shading. Also a '56 F100. There was a '55-'56 Olds with Jardine Headers on the front fenders and "Atomic Reaction" on the rear quarters.
Occasionally we would see a couple sedan deliveries, one with "Miracle Pies - if it's a good pie it's a Miracle" and the other had "Beaver Valley Creamery" on the side panels.
In the urban legend category, people used to talk about a sedan delivery with "Johnson's Meat Company - you can beat our prices but you can't beat our meat" on the sides. I never saw it.
