Anyone remember a book called ''The fastest funny car''. It was a fictional story of a kid who befriends an older guy and gets to drive his car. The car it showed on the cover was a Willis if I remember right. I used to check it out all the time when I was young.

About the only novel type book I ever read in grade school was about a young guy who had a channeled '32. The character was named Marshal Mirrorgl***, and the book was about his turn from being a good for nothing street racer with a good heart, to being a professional racing engine builder. Along the way he worked for another speed shop and drove their altered Bantam roadster. I can remember all the details, I just can't remember the name of the book! Anybody?!
And ya, the Bowmar books are the ones I'm thinking about too. I remember the french horn logo.

Yup, thats the one I had, with the Limefire cuda on the cover. Some REALLY nice color shots of some really famous cars in there, Charlie Wilsons Vette, Junior Brogdens Phony Pony, to mention just a couple. IIRC there was a nice shot of the Hyder Bros '34 in there too, although what it was doing in a funny car book escapes me. I actually won that book in our school christmas art contest for a water-color picture of Santa on a roof in a chizler powered sleigh, natch.
