I remember the first time I thought man I'm gonna be a Hot Rodder and drive a cool car when I grow up. I was riding with my dad in a lowered early 60s Falcon wagon . We rode through town after dark we had installed a 289 4 spd but had not painted it yet he told me to watch the reflections in the store front windows to see how it looked . Then he turned down a side street with a long hill used for the local soapbox derby races . Both side of the street had tall buildings .He said you wind out low gear and let off the gas and the mufflers rattle and echo off the buildings . Boy was I hooked ,at the bottom of the hill a young cop pulled us over and said "Sounds awful loud". Dad looked at him and said he thought it sounded "Damn good" The young cop said ''Yeah it did "he took off his sun glasses smiled and said take it easy and keep it down. After we pulled away I smiled and told dad I was gonna drive a cool old noisey Hot Rod when I grow up. Do you remember the first time you wanted a Hot Rod ?
It wasnt my first but when I was 11 years old a classmates older brother drove by rapping the straight pipes on a Y-block Ford and for the last 10 years I have been rapping the straight pipes on my Y block. It's wonderful music
I thought the same thing. For me it was riding around in my dads El Camino. Picked up a 66 for my first car. Been doing it ever since.
I can honestly say I don't ever remember not wanting a hot rod. It was never a conscious choice as far as I can tell.
