I think the reason that most of us can't ID the new stuff is simply because we don't really give a crap what it is. A kid these days that really has an interest can easily spot the subtle differences in the new stuff, just as we did back in the day.

Stick with me on this - it IS on topic......

In 1959 a Canadian 14-year old student, Steven Truscott was sentenced to death for the alleged murder of classmate Lynne Harper. His death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, and he continued to maintain his innocence until 2007 when he was formally acquitted of the crime.
In court the Crown contended that Truscott raped and murdered Lynne. Truscott has maintained since 1959 that he took Harper on the crossbar of his bicycle to the intersection of the County Road and Highway 8, where he left her unharmed. Truscott maintains that when he arrived at the bridge, he looked back toward the intersection where he had dropped Harper off and observed that a vehicle had stopped and that she was in the process of entering it. At 11:20 that evening, Lynne's father reported her missing.
There were many errors by the prosecution but the one that I always remember (from reading the book 30 years ago) is....

and here is where we get back on topic

The jury could not believe that in 1959 a 14 year old boy could recognize the tail lights of a '57 Chevrolet at night from 50 yards:eek:

  3. Have to agree with ya there; although they DO look mostly VERY alike. Its aerodynamics and plastics you see.......

Then again, they mostly are POS cars these days anyways, and i couldnt give a rats ass about 95% of them.

I can remember as a kid going on vacation. Picking out every oncoming vehicle was a game. I found a piece of paper at my dads a few years ago with the total breakdown of every vehicle we passed between Chattanooga, Tn. and Daytona Beach, Fl. That would be a joke now. Honda, Honda, Honda, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Nissan, Honda, etc.....

There were a few cool ones on there too. '55 chevy, '57 Ford's, alot of '60's stuff, etc.

    Later,
    Kevin

Remember spotting an Olds Cutlass off in the distance at night? The bad taillight grounds gave it away!

Half the taillight would disappear when the turn signals came on......

And who could forget the Rivieras with the lights under the rear glass? Fricken cool!

And the sound of the engine running, the sound of the starter motor, even the closing of a door could tip off what make the car was.
And you could hear the gears on the trucks with the non-syncro trans.

Remember the commercial, I forget what co. did it, I think Lincoln, but it was where the valet parking attendant couldn't locate the fancy quests car, cos they all looked alike, something on that line, it was a great commercial. How sad, style went out with common sense.
