Nothing I enjoy more than getting out the box of National Geographics, and just looking at the ads from the 40's up to the late 60's.

q13.jpg q14.jpg GM in the mid to late 60s had some excellent art. Especially Pontiac as I recall . The original art has got to be worth a fortune. Will dig some out later.

A few that I like. The Chrysler ad's from the 1920's or '30s but I included it because I think the art deco design is cool.

Tom Hale and Bob Rector were probably the most prolific artists in Detroit. I sold a lot of their signed and numbered prints in the 1980's. Bob's stuff is acrylics using tubes of house paint tint!

I scored a Bob Rector original that was the base art for DeLorean ads and promo material.

A little o/t, but why couldn't Chrysler's early fifties products look as cool as their advertising art? Just one of life's little mysteries for me...

I have too many car ads to want to post them all, but I did scan some of my pulp novel covers a while back. I'll only put the car related ones up.

You all might enjoy the book "Boulevard Photographic" which tells the tale of the evolution from these print ads to photography for ads.

Looks like airbags may have been a factory option back in the fifties!

The illustrations in those days where the best, somehow todays automobile pictures seem to be missing something.

I loved the ads for the '62 Pontiac Grand Prix, and that little business about the Tach on the console made me want one even more, imagine my surprise when my Dad came home with a nice used one a few years later
