I'm here at the Lowes motor speedway in Charlotte NC. with my "Outlaw" clone for the Auto fair. It's an Ed "Big Daddy" Roth weekend! and for good reason, this weekend April - 4th marks the p***ing of a true weird-O.

I guess you have to be into this stuff to really dig it, But I figured i'd post a few pics of the cars here and things I've done

I restored the "Druid Princess" and am in the process of restoring the Mega cycle for a Museum
The "Roswell Rod" & "Outlaw" clone are my Tributes to Ed.
I Painted and pin striped the "Mysterion" clone

The "Beatnik Bandit 1 & 2" are here on display at the speedway!

    Ed was the beatnik master
Rat Fink the savior of rusted souls

For us he left way to early,... but if you could ask Ed, he would tell you that he was on time for his appointment. Hebrews 9:27 (it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:)

God Bless Ed Roth, and thanks to ALL those, that keep his spirit alive, both in print and rolling art forms.

Several years ago, the folks who run the big show in Redding, Ca brought Roth in as the Grand Marshall. After reading about him my whole life, I got to met him and found him to be a very, very nice guy. It's nice to meet one of your heroes and find out they are not a jerk.

i wish i was a little closer to check that out. i went to the Reno auto mueseum awhile back and they had the beatnik bandits 1 and 2. had to get my picture taken with them. they had a ton of beautiful cars but those were the ones i wanted pictures of.

  13. had hoped to make it up this weekend, but had one of my wife's clients talk me into coming over Sat. to check out her late father's collection (33 cars) to see if I may can sell them for her. one door closes another one opens

In the vein of remembering Roth, the one time I met him was at the Salt Lake City Autorama 23 years ago. I had brought a beatnik bandit hot wheel for him to autograph. He politely declined because Mattel had taken his design without his permission nor had they paid him to use the design. The lawyers were working it out. I was cool with that and we spent the next half hour talking cars and telling stories. Actually I had him do most of the talking 'cause I was 17 at the time and when else would I have the chance to listen to a legend? Since then I've bought hundreds of hot wheels but not another beatnik bandit. He was genuinely one of the nicest guys I've met.

I met Roth in St. Ignace years ago. Great guy! Still have autographed Surfite and Mysterion model kits sitting on the shelf.

Not much.. but I gotta relate this as my son reminded of it lately. The only time I ever met Roth was to buy a T shirt, but it was memorable. He was about to sign it below the art work. like a dummy I blurted out "Don't do it there man... my belly gets all greasy!" Both he and my son fell out over it. He said yeah man, mine dose too and signed it on the shoulder. Got a pic... lost in an old computer. Still got the shirt.
