Oh my... read that editorial... I still have that word doc around here somewhere. I wrote it in Bus. Cal. at OU.
wow, bet ya had to shake tha cobwebs off those. thanks for sharing, i wasn't around back then so those are really neat...
BTW, you can see some really old material by going here: www.jalopyjournal.com/OLD and here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/OLD/archive/index.html
that stuff is cool , it makes me think of when my buddy craig first showed me the HAMB way back when, It was another 6 months or so before I even joined, cause I didnt have an email at home, cool stuff for sure.
Its funny, I had the Jalopy Journal bookmarked for a good year or so before I realized the HAMB was going on... Always enjoyed Ryan's rants....
Ryan, I first found the HAMB back in 1998 When Christian had his Primer Mag. He had it linked to it and I was just beginning to find Hot Rod e-zines on the web. Weird thing is that I just really couldn't keep away from either one. I dug the content much better than the paper issues, Actually still do. Really liked what was happening but just lurked for a while until I felt that I could post, Got rid of the internet in 2k1, but ck'd in periodically. Took a job @ Wynn's Oil Co. and it came with internet service, saw a post re:my speed equip, decided to comment/defend=Lol!(Thanx Kilroy!) stayed in as a poster ever since even though I normally liked to lay low. I thank Ryan for having the foresight in creating the JJ & HAMB and my business is much more in the know because of it. Great Post Grim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the original stuff of TJJ & HAMB ..I still have a old jpg of the logo on one of my sites since 1999
Hehe, I remember how excited I was when i got my EK Holden added to the Readers Rides section in the old JJ with a caption from Ryan....Dammit that's it i'm gonna do a heap of work on the car tomorrow...=) \m/
holy crap! Ryan's link is like going to a high school 10 year reunion, LOL. I remember posting on the old board "back in them days" thats where I met Mark Moriority, we were like, the only bubble top guys in a sea of trad' rods! heres to 10 more years!!!!!!! FRITZ
I don't remember when I signed on, but Ryan was in college at OU and had just bought the Rivi and also had his 38. Tman,Warpigg, Big Mark, Shag, Hardluck and a bunch of others were still hanging around..... What year would that have been? I think the date under our names was from a later generation hamb when it startde tracking join dates.
You are correct. I recall the memo that Ryan left stating that our post counts, names, and join dates would NOT be transferred to the new (the NOW) board. As to year, I bet around '98. I joined in late '98 or '99 (forget), and you were already here. Cosmo
Thanks for the memories guys...I don't remember the "Slick" logo, but the old amimated maroon one brings back memories...only wish I could remeber my old screen name from back then. I used to use rambler69 and scrambler69 on several boards, but not sure what I used on the H.A.M.B..... too many years and too many beers....
In the winter of 99-2000 I had just moved and punched in "hot rods" on search engine and TJJ came up as one of the links, it was that wheel and tire combo but it seems like it had flames coming off of it..I had been using hotrodsworldwide which was a good classifieds site but it crashed or something....Rick
Unless he's changed it again, Grimlok is now Kevin Lee. You know, I often reminice about the HAMB of days past. If this how old people feel?
I still have one of the first stickers that were done way back that Ryan is not to found of. Almost brought it with me to roundup to show the boss but decided against it. I think Jerry is the only other one that has one. I got started back in 97 or 98 for sure right after Jerry.
Same here, Jalopy Journal was one of the first internet sights I was ever on, I would go to look at the HAMB occasionally but had no idea how to post and was kind of intimidated about the whole thing,... I really knew nothing about computers, I had registered way back then but could never remember my user name or password. decided to re-register and post a couple years ago for some help and have been enjoying it again ever sense. Ryan you did a great job !,..... Thank you
I started out about the same time 98-99 member number 90 was 48HEMI then puter crash came back as oldcarglassguy then back to 48Hemi crashed again came back as NONAME. I've been addicted and there is no cure. I even miss MUDD. I look back at the wild conversations and still wonder what it took to get banned from this rowdy bunch haha it has truely remained the hot rod information highway. hardly a day goes by that I don't check in. don't post as much but I'm here.........Jim
If this is the sticker, I still have a couple.. I don't remember what year I got here but it seems like forever. I was surfing with my new computer, wondering what it would do. I typed in "hot rod" and found the HAMB...been here ever since.
