Man I don't even know when I first found the HAMB. It was a little before what I believe was the first Nor-cal HAMB BBQ. The one where Shag got his truck impounded for burnin' off. Signed up lost internet service and had to re-sign up a few times through the years do to not remembering old ID. It is a lot better now although I wouldn't mind rollin' back the years to score some of the cars and prices back then.
Howza Bruthas- Fuck yeah! I remember reading posts from Jason and his Kustoms by TSR mag. Shag here all of the time. Aaron and the launching of Hot Rod DeLuxe. I met some really cool friends on here and established some great contacts. Hell, the first posting of one of my short stories was on the original HAMB for years. Good stuff. Yeah the HAMB is a very cool place and a site for releiving stress still.
Same for me. I originally found this place , and joined, back around 2000 or 2001. I had just got out of the military, and was still living, in Washington State. Moved around then, across the country, back home to Maryland. I lost internet service for several years in the process. Then started lurking in 05 and joined again in 06. I was going to search for my old username, but there are way more people around than back then. Didn't want to look through 1000s of members to jog my memory........so I just joined again. Only thing bad thing is when I miss 2 or 3 days on here now due to work. Before you know it I've missed 10 days worth of good shit.
It's amazing how much the HAMB has evolved. it's a good thing. My favorite poster will always remain to be ngolongdong.
That's how I wound up on here. I think I replied to getting grease out of someone's hair. Since then; when I do post it's tech 90% of the time. I thoutght "leadsled" was a password. I never knew it would show up on the screen. thanks Ryan. Tim
He did do it Zeke. I just talked with him recently. He hasn't ever been happier. He was talking about going to Arizona in the fall for some work. His art has never been more awesome either.
You changed the slick??? Jeez. I'll mention 2 words. Christian. Broulleur. Anyone that remembers that debacle will remember it for life. My site hasn't been updated for so long it's like visiting an archive. It's become retro! www.martsrods.com Mart.
I came on in 99 also, I thought Ryan had lost it trying to clean up the board back then. in his infinate wisdom this board has evolved in to the best thing going. Thanks Ryan. it couldn't have been easy but you stuck with it............Jim
I think I wandered in here about '99 too. Put my first post up in all CAPS! Boy, did I get "flamed!" Then I got "flamed" some more for being a Canuck. (weren't many of us here back then) "Razzed" about us Canucks always saying, "EH." But hey, it was all in good fun. I also got lost in the changeover. But thinking back, it was for the BETTER! Like NONAME says, Thanks Ryan!
I was in the same boat. I stumbled onto the HAMB long after I bookmarked the JJ. Nice to know there were others.. History from the Digital age
Nice too "hear" you as well as some other ones from the early years. I´ve been here since the earlier days, I guess mid 90´s someting. Im not sure of the year, we were only a few here back then. Now I sometimes do break for a few weeks but I always returns. I lurks a lot, but posts more seldom. Back then my computer was a 386, or maybe it was a 286, with an early modem and I was not able to see photos. Even so, I found Jalopy Journal and HAMB from a link at Mel Klimas "Big Blue Car", that was probably the very first site on Internet about kustoms. Later on, in 96, I had my kustom car drawings published there, "Webb on the web" if anyone remembers... Reflections in my rearview mirror shows were I´ve been messin´... The first issue of Lead News (1989), Jerome's first issue of "Continental Restyling" (1991), in Christian Verscharen's "Primer", Kustoms by TSR... and on that long winding road Im now running my own buisness and works some for Gasoline. Oh, what the world has changed since those days. I´ve might have been feeding a beast, I dont know and Im not always sure that it was the right thing to do. Too long and complicated to explain here. Customs is my life and Im very conserative in my view on customs. On the other side: So many good things that have happened too, and that is due to HAMB. For instance I got too meet Rikster in person for the first time last weekend and it was like I´ve known him for ten years. HAMB creates friendship. Thanks Ryan, you have changed my world, and maybe even the world.
reminds me of using my old 486 computer. Then I upgraded to a cutting edge Pentium 900hz some piece of expensive crap that needed more upgrade work than any car i've ever owned. good times tp
