Haven't found the answer to this (although I bet it's here somewhere):
    • The battery in Clarence is mounted along the right-side frame rail near the rear wheels. There is a huge (sorry but I don't know the actual size) wire/cable running from the battery to the terminal on the starter on the 350 SBC.
    • I'm going to install remote battery terminals somewhere in the engine bay to facilitate jump starting and/or battery charging.

    • Now for my question: can I run a cable from the starter to this new terminal or do I need to run a large cable all the way to the battery?
    • I'll be running the ground cable to the frame. I'll drill a hole in the frame and grind the frame at that point to shiny metal. Then after cable installation I'll cover this connection to the frame with grease. Note that the frame is the ground bus for the entire truck.
    • I've been watching several hamb threads on battery cable size for remote battery installations, but they all deal with battery to starter situations and not remote terminal situations.
    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: the pic above that didn't show up is this:

Run it to the starter. If you are jump starting it's actually a better location. Another alternative is to have a battery isolator switch in the engine bay an hook up to that

@atch there’s your answer! I have remote terminals sitting in a box to put on my Fargo so I don’t have to pull the carpet back if there is a problem.

Only issue with running it to the starter is the threads on the starter solenoid. The lug added over the existing battery cable lug might be thick enough that two may not allow for a nut to go on the lug.
The mention of adding a disconnect switch near the engine is good because it allows the battery to be isolated, and gives a better place to add a second cable and lug also.

Either way will work as long as you have clean connections and sufficient size cable, studs and terminals!
Build it the way it is easier or fits your truck!

I have 2 full threads showing on the starter lug. I think that should be plenty to attach another cable to.

    Thanks guys.
