Wanted to see how people were handling a radiator mounted low with cap below the engine level. A remote fill is needed to purge air. Ive seen the inline radiator caps, this thread refers to Ford FE remote fill tanks. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/filler-cap-in-radiator-hose.136137/ The inline caps seem to work well, but Im not crazy about how they look. Any good remote tanks (with cap) out there? Good mounting and hose routing ideas?
I’ve got an ot racecar with the rad cap below the upper rad hose. I have to Jack the car up in the front end so that the rad cap is the highest part and then burp the system. It works ok but is inconvenient. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The radiator on my car angles back and the fill cap is below the thermostat housing I did two things that seem to work. I installed a inline radiator cap housing you can find cast or billet models pretty easily. The other thing I did was drill and tap the thermostat housing for 1/4” NPTand installed a radiator pet/drain cock. When I’m confident I have air out of the cooling system with the engine running I can crack open the pet/drain cock to let last bit of air out.
one can get a upper hose like this that has the rad cap built in Gates EPDM Rubber, Plastic, Steel Coolant Hose 23577 | O'Reilly Auto Parts
I paid $20 for an aluminum in hose radiator filler with a cap from Jeg's early last year. It had a hose nipple included, so I did add a recovery system as well. I did have to get a couple of hose clamps though. I guess if you need an upper hose, that one listed above may be worth the money. Gene
I have a remote fill brass tank that is cylindrical in shape that I purchased as surplus from Princess Auto ages ago. Still haven't found a use for it but it is a nice thing to have.
Good feedback, looking for remote tanks and how they are mounted. I like the pressure relief in the thermostat housing.
May not be the look you're going for but this was on a Willys I wired in 2012. https://www.cantonracingproducts.co...MI36LxvJTi7gIVhL3ACh2ZeQNrEAAYASAAEgLo4PD_BwE
I bought my remote fill tank because I remembered seeing one on a mid 40's Nash. I asked the owner where he got it from and he told me that it was original equipment on the Nash. The car had a crossflow radiator and this tank was mounted where a conventional radiator would fill from. Another Hamb era car with a remote fill tank would be a Gen One Corvette. I normally would post a picture, but it is in my brother's garage and we are in this deep freeze at this time.
Good call on corvettes. Radiator mounted low, possibly lower than engine. Ill look thru multiple generations if there was a factory set up.
