I know someone probably has a build thread on this but cant seem to find it in the search so here it goes... Looking for info on what you have done for tops on your A's. I dont want to fill it in with metal, and have seen some snap on leather/vinyl tops people have but have no clue as to how to go about it. Im building a 29 sedan with my son and we want to roll or take the top off on nice days. Any info or pics would be a big help! Thanks
It might not look absolutely the best but you could put one of the aluminum channels across the front that upholstery shops use to hold down the front of tonneau covers on pickups. It's called awning rail. http://www.csctextiles.com/jef_04awn-01.htm you slip the front edge of the top that has a cord sewn in it in the slot and then snap the sides and back.
On my coupe, I just made a vinyl tarp (looks like canvas) that nailed down in the front like stock. I used lift the dot fasteners rather than snaps, but it wasn't too bad to do. I just started at the front and pulled it tight, marked where the fastener was and installed that one, then moved to the second spot and repeat. The biggest problem I have is that I sewed in wire rope thinking it would keep the edges from flopping around... and it curls up. I'd like to make another one some day... but this worked for like 6 years now - and was a learning experience.
