Can someone help me understand how to remove the knob/shaft from the headlight ***embly in my '54? I have pushed, pulled and twisted but I can not figure out a way to remove it. Any help is much appreciated!
On your headlight switch (should be on top I think near the rear of the switch) there should be a small "pin" sticking up with a head on it about the size of a small rivet. Push the pin into the switch, it will release the shaft as you pull out the knob.
Ford used that same set up for a very long time too ! Now sometimes you have to loosen the switch so you can rotate it so you can get a finger onto that tiny pin with the spring to push down on , then pull the knob with shaft out . Jim
Thanks guys. I saw the little pin with a spring wrapped around it and tried pushing on it while pulling on the knob but it didn't do anything. I'll go work on it this weekend.
In theory this should be easy to do, but in practice it is always a PITA. My experience is that you need to push on the little ****on and wriggle it around while pulling the knob in and out. Sounds like I am talking about something else altogether different! The ****on is on the end of a small shaft through which the headlight switch shaft p***es through. Persevere it will pull out. I have in the past had shafts which just refused to come out and then when the planets were aligned - Hey Presto, Voila! - it fell out. Regards
