When I installed a Carson styled top on a 1939 Ford convertible I used ready available thumb screws for the windshield attachment points but tried several things to hold the rear of the top in place, I finally ended up using two seat belt latches, just mash the ****on to release. HRP

I took a set of head rest receivers out of an old set of seats and welded them into the tops of the quarters on my roadster. I then cut the posts off the headrest and welded tabs onto the top of them. I can now fasten the top to them when I have it on the car or remove the tabs so they are not sticking up where I would whack my elbow when cruising with the top off. The front just clamps to the windshield posts in the normal way. Takes all of 2 minutes to remove the top. Stole the idea off someone here. 20190125_201724.jpg

Take a look at those chrome "frankenstein" bolts on a Miata.

C1 Corvettes use latch fasteners on the front of their removable hardtops as well.
