Hello. I'm in the process of removing the doors on my -56 fairlane and just wanted to ask a quite noob question before I break anything I don't have to. Looking on the door-stop, or what ever it's called, the thing that stops the door from going p***ed 90* open and wreck the hinges, it doesn't seem to be bolted anywhere? Do I have to just drill out the rivet in the hinge on the stop and replace it when i put the door back on, or do I miss anything here?
You'll need to remove the inner door trim panel. Once that's off you'll see the door end of the check link. There's a cotter pin, a washer and a rubber bumper. Pull the pin and remove the washer and bumper and you should be able to remove the door. If you want to remove the check link ***embly you'll need to drill out the rivet. The rivet is very hard metal so use a hard bit.
No, the upholstered trim panel that has the arm rest on it. If your car is a hardtop or convertible the inside metal trim piece at the top of the door will have to come off to get the trim panel off.
Ok, the doorpanel (?) Well, that's out of the way and can't see any cotterpin when I try to look inside, took out two springs in each door, but that didn't do much good. Will bring a bigger flashlight and have go at it this weekend I think.
