removing frozen brake drum

    Hello everyone. My name is Rob i live here in Fontana Ca and I'am new to this site and to the Merc community. i just purchased a 51 Merc. it looks good but needs some under carriage work and electrical work but not too bad considering the year.

    Hi Rob & welcome. What is the problem with the drum & what are you trying to do. Do you mean it is locked and will not rotate or do you mean you cannot remove it or both.
    If either of the above it may be that over time your old drum has worn down on the inside and brake shoes have been adjusted farther in to compensate for drum wear. When this happens there will be a lip on the edge of the drum that will not allow drum removal until you turn the brake adjusters & back the shoes out enough to clear the lip. It may take just a little backing them off or it may take a lot. I am no Merc expert but this is common with all the old drum brakes.
