Does anyone have pictures of a leaf pack removal? Mine is riveted together, how do I remove leafs safely and then put it all back together? Ford f1 48'
big c clamp on either side of the rivet, grind head off, loosen clamps slowly. use a bolt instead of rivet when going back together.
that's how most are now a days, bolted together. makes it a lot easier when figuring out whether to pull out more or put in more if pulled out too many leafs.
use the c clamps to pull the pack back together when putting it back together too, the bolt probably wont do it.
For the bolt, you'll have to use a cap screw, as an octagon bolt head won't fit the register hole in the spring pad. To take them apart, as said, two C-clamps. I like to put a third, large C-clamp over the hole thing like a cage to keep it from flying apart if one of the clamps slips off. When you put it back together, two c-clamps and a LONG bolt to line up all the holes through the leaves. Start drawing the clamps together incrementally to compress the springs, stopping frequently to draw up the nut on the bolt to hold everything in place. Once the springs are tight and the nut is all the way run up on the bolt, synch the c-clamps down, remove the long bolt and replace with the cap screw of the proper length. -Brad
