If the paint is fresh enough why not use a little bit of lacquer thinner on a rag?

Oooh sorry... you could try some aircraft stripper and a rag. Then come back with a good chrome stainless polish.

Brake fluid or carb cleaner. An abrasive will damage the chrome, use it as little as possible.

Pam oven cleaner. The generic oven cleaner don't seem to work.

LOL Fuzz I was thinking the same thing. But I dated a gal named Pam in school and she wouldn't come clean so I dumped her. :D

Years back, I wound up with overspray all over my brand new Harley. A good friend brought over a bottle of magic elixir that cleaned all the paint off my bike without ruining the chrome, clearcoat, or leather. It was called "3M Perfect-It III" Rubbing Compound.
It's magical!!!!! Not even a swirl mark!!!!

A chemical paint stripper will not touch chromium. I use it to strip paint off of chrome frequently in order to be able to strip the chrome for replating jobs. The paint remover never hurts it. Don't use anything abrasive; a good hard surface cleaner followed by a nice soat of wax will do fine and not reomve any of the very thin chromium layer.

If the plated surface is yellowish, the chrome is gone and you are looking at nickel. Nickel plating can be polished with an abrasive polish safely by hand (nickel is a much thicker plating, and unless you are OCD, you will not rub through it by hand.)
