Technical Removing paint runs quickly

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 1971BB427, Sep 23, 2024.

  1. Learned this on a Paintucation video. Make a single edge razor into a scraper. This trick has saved me many times!!

Rub the sharp edge on a hard shaft, slightly bending the edge over.

Bend the blade into a arc with the burr on the top of the curve. The curve prevents 'end effects', concentrates the scraping directly on the run.

Then simple draw the curved scraper over the dried drip. Several passes will perfectly remove the offending drip/run.

This is what I said above. Great pics to demonstrate. Of course my wife thought I had a cocaine issue when she helped clean out the garage after painting her truck. Chicks...

  3. I've tried the fine nibbler file and it filled up too fast.
I went back to bending the single edge blade, as above.
After you work the run down, you can straighten the angle up a bit .Once you start to pick up the surrounding area, you can block it out . ;-)

I have some cheap Harbor Freight foam sanding pads that have the grit impregnated into the pads, but way too coarse. But I simply wrap them with 1500 grit wet or dry to go over the paint after scraping the runs smooth.
Those pads wrapped with good paper and a spray bottle of water made the final sanding very easy on the rounded fender.
