What is the best way to remove steering column from '36 ford truck. The cab is not big enough to just pull the column far enough back until it hits the back window. Not enough room to wiggle it around to pull out either. The goal is to take the cab off the frame.

Thanks for the help - I am a newbie at this...Casey

Disconnect the column ignition switch bracket from the dash and floor board/seals from around the column at the floor.
Remove the wiring/light switch body from the bottom of the box.
Disconnect the box from the frame.
Remove the horseshoe clip from the horn rod at the bottom of the column.
Remove back window glass, swing column towrd back window and remove horn rod being extra extra careful not to bend the rod, i kink and it's history.
Remove the steering wheel nut and steering wheel.
Slide column down though floor board and out.

FNG question. Will this procedure work the same on a 42-47 Ford 1.5 ton?

  7. '42-'47 (actually '40-'41 as well) is easier because you don't have to bother with the horn rod like you do on '39 and earlier.
