Technical Removing the dash

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Babyboomerboy, May 6, 2024.

  1. Is there a step by step instruction manual for removing the dash of a 1950 Ford Tudor. Also is there step by step procedure for installing a new harness? I have never been so unsure of anything in my life, trying to gut the car, cut all the wires off the dash, and somehow install new wires in its place and then re-install the dash, and it works!

If you’re removing the dash to rewire it, Id suggest not doing that.
Most of the wiring from the dash is attached and/or goes through the inside of the firewall.
Your going to spend time on your back under there regardless. Removing the dash also entails removing knob linkages and hard telling what else you’ll run into.

  4. I did just that about 5 years ago. It's actually pretty easy to remove the dash, just keep taking things apart, it's really a lot easier once the dash is out to start the rewiring process. It will have to go back together before you're done wiring but it's a lot easier to do the bulk of the work with it out.

When I rewired my bird I pulled the whole dash. Let me repaint it, wire it on the bench, clean everything up behind it. Some connections have to be done after its back in, but some can be done with bulkhead fittings or multiple prong plugs.
