Just picked up this 34 pickup, pretty dang straight for it age, but the floor in the box has rotted pretty bad...the weird thing is that these have a metal bed with wood underneath?..is that stock?.....any way...any quick way, to get the floor out so I can remove the tank and box?...the fasteners are all pretty much seized up....
Mark, that the way it came from the factory. You can buy the metal floor and wood, if you plan to redo the bed.....
I did this on a 35/36 bed a few years ago. Drilled the rivets out of the sides and if you have to, cut the bolts from below.
Are the bolts threaded into the crossmembers?...I cut one of the nuts below the bed to free up the bolt and it appears that the bolts are attached to the crossmembers?
I think I'll cut them off at the bottom even if the nut is part of the crossmember, I can easily reattach a new bed without those nuts...my last 34 had a plywood bed when I bought it, so I just made it better looking by adding oak planks and stainless strips over the plywood
If that's the plan you have plenty of room to just place the oak over the existing floor after sandblasting and replacing the existing rot. ..
I may have opted for that but I need to get the tank out and plus I wanted to do some suspension work and replumb the brakes...so it was just easier in the long run to get the bed off....geeter done!!...thanks guys for the support
