Anybody planning on going? Any one in Reno got a floor I can sleep on? Who knows the way to the Valley of Speed?

Did you not book your room this year?

  3. Man, I wish! There is no sound like a low pass of a WWII fighter at 400mph! :) Wife and I went two years ago and had a GREAT time! She got us a room at the Silver Legacy for $29......no kidding! Best cheap room I ever had! :) We keep talking about a return trip, but no luck in making it happen yet...maybe next year!

  4. I wish, my co-worker just left yesterday, he showed me some footage and it ruled so cool.

A customer just asked me yesterday if we'd be interested in purchasing their old stock from the supply room. They restored Mustangs. I'm supposed to be getting an inventory list this week. No Allison or Merlin engines so don't get excited! We've got one P-51 on the field here on occassion. I wish we had about ten. I'd love to see those races.

Oh man find a way to go if you can. I have not been in about 7 years but I've gone to 4 of them. Never gets old...there's so much to see, especially in the pits. I used to like to get there really early...so I could watch them tow out to the line and run up those big radials and Merlins. I've got to get my Dad back there soon-he's an old USAF veteran and keeps asking me to go back.

    Prop Strike,

I'll be there with my friends from out of town. I live about 5 miles due west of the main runway of Stead Airport in Cold Springs, Nv. Sorry I don't have a floor to sleep on as my friends have it covered. You can call me at 775-225-4039 (cell) when you get in. I will be at the races today and Sunday. To get to the air races just head north out of Reno and follow the signs. Can't miss it.

lots going on this weekend in Nor. Cal / Nor Nevada

  11. We went to Yosemite for a family trip (with the in-laws) a couple years ago. The high point of the trip (for me) was on the return leg, as we were leaving from Reno for Detroit. We went to visit my wifes uncle, who lives less than a mile from the airport where they were practicing. I thought I kept hearing old airplanes, and I asked him if there were any around... he said "duh, go outside and look to the right". I really didn't wanna leave.;)

Dad said there was alot of old aircraft activity around the house today too, but I got home too late and all I saw was the Goodyear blimp.

For those who are going, PLEASE get some pix to share!

Effin peer pressure. If all goes well, I'll be back next year. Have fun. Saw where september fury is setting the pace at 487.51 qualifying avg. Rare Bears 2nd. Dago Red DNQ so far.

I wouldn't give up on the Bear yet, they won on their travel engine last year. Hopefully they'll make it back in.

    damn... amazing video.

for those that have never been... the Reno Air Races are a MUST for any kind of gearhead. Vintage tin and amazing engines at full song. A sound that goes right down yer spine and a sight that will bring a tear to the eye of anyone who made a Revel WWII fighter model on a sunday morning at the dinning room table. My room had lots of them hanging on fishing line from the ceiling when I was a kid. It stops you in your tracks to see the real version fly overhead.

  16. I went once about 10 years ago. What a fuckin' blast! Nothing like seeing P47s,P38s, P51s at speed! A must see for anyone who is into internal cumbustion engines on a major scale.

    What Choptop said...

No doubt. Helluva job gettin her back on the ground. That's a pretty good thrash those guys pulled off. Last pic is the power run/leak check this morning. Very cool that these guys have a motor to get there and one for the races. Probably easier than trailerin it. Cryin effin shame about the merlin. Coming soon to a beer can near you.

    OHHH JEEEEZZZ!!!!!!

I love the big iron. That guy in the Tigercat is really throwing that thing around. That's a BIG plane. Here's one many of you have probably seen. The pilot is Ray Hanna who could do amazing things with a Spitfire. He passed away late last year and is sorely missed.

Talk about ground effect! Very cool. Always liked the spitfires too. Ray Hanna was a living legend. Now he's an immortal.

    Prop Strike,

Bummer you couldn't make it this year. I went yesterday and it was "Colder than the look of an underpaid whore". I shot some and one of my friends who is a real shutter bug shot a bunch so we should have some photos. Now to learn how to post them.

The first T-6 race lined up and did their start over my house a little while ago and the first Formula race just started. It's nice and warm today. Oh well, I'm gong Sunday no matter what.

The spot they shot the video you posted is where we started the day Tuesday before going to the airport. I got to talk to Darryl Greenamyer and gave him some photos of his Smirnoff dragster. He autographed an 8 X 10 I made that had myself and the driver of my dragster in it.

    More later, CyberWalt

As if the blown merlin wasn't bad enough, Merlin's Magic suffered some major damage on Saturday when an O2 bottle burst during servicing. Talk about a tough week.

Can anyone go to that fenceline?? Cause when I go, that is where I am parking myself! The Silver race where Cloud Dancer goes wide... I am so there!!! No yapping on the PA, no crowds... just that beautiful, beautiful sound!

Were they filming more of the movie? Think it will be any good? http://www.thunderoverreno.com
