Amazing swap meet, it easily doubled in size from last year. Lots of great stuff for sale. I found a rebuilt 318 engine for the Billetproof van and couple of other goodies I'll post pictures of once I get them in my hot little hands. great swap, not to be missed.
Yep, the official Reno Swap Meet is one not to miss next year. They need lots of improvement with organization, signs on which gates to go in, etc But, only the second year at ARCO Arena. This was the Reno swap at Hot August Nites in Reno, NV. So, will be very intersting to see how the Hot August Nites first swap meet goes. I am not traveling to Hot August Nites for swaps any more.
I was impressed with the swap meet, a few bugs this year. I sold and did excellent. The wallets were open this year. Lots of 97s, intakes and miss. I also had a great time.. Duane..
We had some of the coolest most desirable stuff of the swap in our spot and sold almost nothing. Sacramento swap meets are notorious for tire kickers, I knew that going in but it was bad, I think I would have had to pay people to take my stuff plus deliver to make stuff move. Ad to that the fact that probably the best organized parking lot in town for getting people in and out was run by retards, it was one aggravating weekend. But I did finally get a model A deck lid for cheap.
I wish I'd planned for spending more time there. I only had two hours to devote to my mission of finding new tail light ideas and it took that long just to make one hurried pass through the whole thing. I could have spent all day there - it was HUGE and had lots of great stuff. Got what I needed tho'
i know i yelled at you to slow down and you just kept walking. it's cool though.i was selling and the stuff that i thought would sell fast did not. and the trinket shit sold fast.
to be fair to the organizers... The parking lot entrance works great when you are going to a basketball game at Arco... when everyone just has to waive money at anyone of the 5 ticket takers at any one of the 10 or so entrances.... now, narrow it down to ONE entrance, and have to check registration, and take in fees, and deal the with the 30 guys that left their registration at home and cant seem to remember the name of their buddy who the registration was REALLY under but there are sure its there somewhere... Throw in the fact that the swap meet was easily twice the size it was last year, MANY swap meeters DONT register and try to pay at the gate with chickens or trade for parts.. and it can back up QUICK. and you get a bottle neck. Its something the organizer is aware of and will be fixed for future shows.
Actually I was referring to the arco workers? That sent us (crew cab w trailer) to three different gates (U turn each time) then back to the second one, then when cross traffic was getting blocked, back to the third gate. My buddy driving was so fuckin pissed I was expecting a aneurism any second. If this was an example of the mentality john had to put up with to pull this thing off? Hes a better man than me.
any swaps this upcoming weekend, I live about 3 hours south of reno, me and some co-workers are gonna head up on saturday to check out HAN
Had a great time at the swap meet even took some pics of some stuff not to many actual cars but enjoy oh yea the mural was on the back of a dodge drag car should be good for a fonze or two. Have to admit I was a little confused I though dodge boys were the ones in the white hat ?
The two chevys 57 gasser and the nomad were both under 5 gs apiece i couldnt believe some of the prices! of coarse there were some definate fans of the Barret Jackson auctions there man huuuuuge money for junk but i would say over all a realistic crowd I thought. I will for sure be back next year this time I hope with some actual bread. Also How do you know your chick is smarter than you? She talks you into taking a motorcycle to a swap meet!!! Man i was playing checkers and she was playin chess!
Ahhh, gotcha. John did say he was short staffed at registration... kinda one of those "good" problems... not good on the day of the show, but fixable and just an indication of how popular the swap was. There will be more staff next time. Perhaps a little more instruction to the Arco staff would be in order as well. You are right, normally they are pretty good about getting people in and out.. I wonder what the mix up was.
Us too....and were just buyers! Arrived at 6:00, took almost an hour to get in. I can't believe they didn't at least have the lanes marked for vendors, car corral, and buyers. We got turned away at several entrances before getting it. Seems to me that the staff that turned us away could've been better utilized taking cash and letting people in We were fine once we finally got in. The swap was HUGE this year!! There were a lot of good parts and it seemed like most were priced to sell. We did a lot better at this swap than we did at Turlock last year. Food vendors were pretty weak...somebody needs to FIRE those breakfast burrito cooks! Bryan
Thats was the other thing that needed fixing, and that John is aware of. More food vendors and some that can find their ass with two hands. I went to get lunch and saw the slow process for making a burrito and chose the go hungry ( i could use to drop a few pounds anyway ). look for it to be much better next year.
We preregistered and drove right in on Sun morning and setup-got there at 5 am. It seemed there was little interest in early Ford stuff--had alot of 40 stuff(dashes,axles,etc.,etc.) and no one ever looked at them. but my neighbor sold a ton of 55-57 stuff-that seemed to be where the interest was. Didn't get to walk around much but it was way bigger than last year-this is the only time in the past 5 years we have ever set up to sell-next year I'm just gonna go and enjoy it.
I was shocked at how huge it was. I'm still sore from walking. Overall, not too bad, once we actually got in that is. Definately be back next year.
Just curious, for comparisions sake, more than a few have tossed the word HUGE around, just how big physicly was this meet? I vend at E-Town here on the east coast in the spring, 350 + acres for 4 days. I am up to 3 spots totaling 20 x 60 feet.
will have to get the acreage number... but here is a pic from last year (this is about 1/2 of the swap), easily double the size this year (4 x this pic)
That's when you buy a truck or car big enough to load up the bike and watch her expression when you pull in the driveway
Was better organized last year. Next year I'll bring my own food and coffee and hope for a separate registered vendor entrance. This was a large swap on par with the January Turlock, at least my tired feet said so. The weather was beautiful, and by 8am they were setting up vendors in a dirt lot at the back of the property used to store empty vehicle trailers. Lots of vendors still arriving later on Sunday were just people trying to make room in the garage and pick up a few bucks. I found many great deals from them for vintage speed parts, and my buddy bought a nice antique gas pump for $60. Sold most of my stuff early in the day for asking price - can't beat that. Then there was the professional swap meet seller that wanted $125 for a pair of early format plate frames that happened to be from a dealer in my small home town. At that price I'll just have to keep on looking on local barn walls. Vintage license plates and frames were some of the very highest priced items I saw at the swap.
Hey, I saw this fat fender coupe in the parking lot at the swap meet - it's got a perfect chop - anybody know who owns it or who did the chop?
