    Hello!
Got a 54´Bel Air with a broken tranny. (Cast iron powerglide)
Id like to keep the 235 cause it runs great but I cant find any replacement powerglide. What type of tranny would fit the engine? Im aware that I need to rebuild the rear axle. Any other tips around this modification is very welcome!

With the adapter, and a cross member, any GM V8 (or 90º V6) transmission you want Aluminum Powerglide to 6L80E. I'd do a 700R4, and a circa 1976 Camaro rear, with 3.73:1 gears, or 3.42:1 if it is flat where you live.

Thanks for the tips. I e-mailed the Bendtsen guy, hope he send to Sweden. Think Ill use a TH350 or TH400. Thats more awailable here in Sweden. Any ideas what kind of gears to use with those trannys?

  5. Nothing wrong with a 350 turbo transmission,,I'm running them in both my 32's. HRP

I would say use a 350 trans its a 3 speed, but when i see your in sweden. I say use what ever you can get your hands on. you will have to change the rear end cause of the inclosed drive shaft. I'm sure your choices are limited to your location.

We have a lot of stuff for american cars here due to a massive import and interest for american classics, but to get a hold of a tranny quick and cheap, ill probably buy a rusted out Van. And a friend of mine has a Camaro rear axle. So if I get a hold of this adapter kit, hopefully me and my girl can cruise the Chevy this summer. :)

Second generation Camaro rear with 3.42 gears ought to be sweet.

You could also just rebuild the Powerglide, they're not that difficult or expensive to fix.

S-10 work good and some have a 3.42

  11. S10s were badged as Isuzu as well as GMC, don't know which of those if any Sweden got.

I would vote for this option. In the end when all is said and done this will probably be the most cost effective and easiest. No adapters, modifications or rear end changes. 2nd choice would be a 350 turbo hydramatic with whatever GM 4-3/4" bc rear you can find in Sweden.

    Good Luck, Pat

The Powerglide is now at TL Transmission Speedshop in Uddevalla on the westcoast of Sweden. From the beginning it seemed like it was going to be quite expensive. But I bouoght a carton of old NOS parts in a carton, didnt have a clue really what it contained. Just cool old stoff! But there were some expensive stuff that fit My transmission so now its coming together for like half the price! :) Im really glad I took this decision with the tranny, thanks for all your advice!
