So I've been searching around and it doesn't look like Mallory or anyone else for that matter makes a replacment cap and rotor for the old YL11A Ford Model A distributor. Mine is still okay, but I'd like to have a spare around. Is NOS stuff pretty much the only option??? Or is there anything else thats interchangable?
I'm in the process of trying to accomplish bringing replacment caps and rotors to market. At least a custom one for myself. I'd like to know how many of you would actually be into that. I start my own thread soom. But if you are and read this let me know. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I would deff be interested. They are hard to find nos and some of us have a bunch in there distorbtors or at least I do. My rotor is stripped and spins on shaft. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Remember that thee things can use the 8 cylinder lower cap, hidden under the 4 cyl lid for aesthetics. I believe rotor is the same as V8 on the 2-piece cap aluminum Mallorys and on the last version of the iron one, which is same size as the big aluminum one. The '50's 8 cylinder stuff is easier to find NOS and is fairly plentiful in decent used condition. There are at very least two earlier 2-piece cap Mallorys for the bangers, probably more, first one introduced while the A was still in production...if you need parts for one of those you are in big trouble!
A rotor is still available from NAPA in their Echlin line. Like Bruce said, an 8 cylinder cap can be used; in fact, I used to have a Mallory top cover that blanked off every other plug wire hole.
Guys i have new rotors ( spring loaded for the cast iron A mallory) and a couple new two piece caps in the box.... $100 for cap and rotor while they last ........
