People seem to be losing track of some major components of putting on a quality event. TIME, MONEY & STAFF.

You need people to do the behind the scenes work- which most participants of any event , never realize is hundreds (even thousands) of hours of VOLUNTEER work to make a show for YOU-before during and after the event.

The guys from SEMA take an antire year to do their show (understandable because of its size) and the next morning, start on the following years.

Most of the things you see: bands, contents or whatever- they need staff to help them out, and usually $$$ to get paid for the work THEY do.

You work hard all year and then hope someone shows up- its a **** shoot on wheether people will attend- if you had a good event the year before, thats a sign people will come back, but never a gaurantee - so this is hard to do. MY club did a show for 6 years- laid back, tons of freebies, show as 3-8 on a Saturday to allow the working man a chance to go to work in the AM and still show up- and we donated our profit to kids. We never made one cent off the show. And for that- it took us almost 1000 hours of work to get 300 cars there each year. You want a specilized show(tuner, traditional, street rod) it gets even harder because you are limiting the type of entry and people may have to travel (which adds expense they may not be willing to do that year)..

A good show will always need help. You want a quality show in your area? Call the local promoter of an event you like and offer to help them out.Suggesting a Billetproof show is a great idea but someone has to be willing to make it happen.

well, considering I'm the promoter for Billetproof and my full time job is booking the bands, finding the locations, paying the insurance... all that. I'm willing to make it happen.

I'd like to suggest Sled Scene East in Gettysburg, Pa. June 13-15, 2008.

Thats would be a great idea- not sure if there are truly enough cars around here for a Billetproof though- and New Englanders are weird like that- and dare I say - WE are cheap...LOL

Maybe you should contact Lance from Milltown and see if he would be interetsde ind oing such a show. I think a late August event would be cool- with such a short season around here , everyone crams so many shos into such a short time.

Anyone else think there may a good call for an even like this?

Hpow many cars would you want to attend? That may be a good starting point to see if it would work around here/...

Well as far as dates... Why not do it the same time that the Road Agents show was? Late July.

    Location?
    - I'm thinking Upstate New York. That would pull in the far N.E., northern VA, PA and New York folks. Make it central to everyone.

    Number of Cars?
    - how many ya got? :D 250-350 makes for a good start.

i would definitely be there for a billetproof NE. i think there is no doubt that there would be enough of the right kind of car for an event like this.

new englanders are cheap. hahahaha, i was just thinking the same thing. i hope it's not too far away (no more than 2 hours from boston) and i hope it doesnt cost too much to get into.

I would say at least 300 cars would need to be there for a good show for spectators , participants and for you to at least break even on a show.

I know when the Right Coast tried our event in CT (which we arent doing THIS year but I think may be back in the future) , people said $30 for a weekend event was too expensive- not sure what a Billetproof show runs for a weekend, but its just an FYI.

I think it would be great to at least check into having - there isnt much at the tail end of the summer 'round here for big events....

You'd probably have to find some place big to hold it with stuff to do in the area too- THATS a hard one to find.... at least in M***.

now THAT would be fun :D unfortunately I have a BilletFULL personal ride, so my car would have to stay home.

August 18-30 (or anytime in between) is a good time for a show around here I think...

Anyone else want to add two cents?
Maybe the guys from the Alter Boys might be interested in giving more info (Magneto)????

Instead of re-inventing the wheel, connect with the guys already putting on events. I know we don't turn down free hands on show day. Our whole crew works their collective ****s off to keep in flowing and fun. These existing events can be as great as YOU want them to be. Help out or at least ATTEND them.

July in upstate BY? Hell- guess you havent ever heard of the Syracuse Nats in the middle of July (which by the way was the SAME weekend as Road Agents) they get almost 7000 cars so that weekend is out!

And I agree with Ray- why not see what people can do for the shows already around? Its a start. The show is only as successful as the people who attend it.

Unfortunalety, we dont have one central group to make sure people dont have quality events on the same weekend. We have two great weekend events going on this year at the SAME TIME- both are great shows , just different crowds and its a bummer that this has happened because both promoters mean the best for their respective events and the hobby.

Ray- I know I cant usually get to your show - But Im always willing to help pronote ANY show someone asks me too so if I can help in any way- give a yell.

Indeed, that weekend is out. But thats the kind of info I would need to know to make any show in the area a success.

    Hmmm. more to think on.

Billetproof Northeast edition sounds like a great idea. From experience I know there is enough of a traditional following in this area. We started a show a few years back with a tradional (for the most part) car attendance of about 300 the first year (check out hotrodfallout.com) As for events to fill the" Rumble" void, (partly) we started a new hot rod show in Meriden CT on July 26th. Pre- 62 rods and customs, bands all day, pigroast, drinks at Quality Time Cafe on RT5. I'll post more info later on our show, but I'm down to help on getting a high profile show in our area.

    Lenny,
Cool. I will stop by this week with some flyers.
It ****s that the Hudson Get Together and The Riot are on the same day. After I was told about the Road Agents decision, I looked around the internet for a week checking posted schedules and deciding on what day to have it. Didn't see anything.
Both shows have a loyal following and should do OK.
100% Ian, Milltown Lance and Murdercycles all work together to cross promote our events. It only helps to make each one better.
    See you soon,

There is no replacement for the Road Agents show,it will be missed but we can all try to support those who are putting on an event in the area.I think the the Silver City Shakedown will be a good one to make it to.

yes it is- you know-for years now there have been a group of guys who want to sit down with everyone and make sure shows dont overlap- Im hoping next year that group finally pulls together and does just that. With such a short show season, New Englanders have to cram everything into 3 or 4 months- and it ****s because now we have to CHOOSE our shows instead of being able to get to all of them. I mean locally, we have really good shows that happen the weekend of Syracuse- and I wish I could go to both ... Same thing happens on Fathers Day weekend. It is what it is.

I know Lance and the Milltown guys arent too thrilled about an event the same weekend as their show-BUT its different crowds and no one knew (at least to the general public) that it was being moved to a weekend event from a one day. I cant imagine someone from the Milltown show going to a "Rod & Custom' Nationals show and vice versa. I mean hell, Rick's show actually is open to tuners too- although Im sure they wont show up- there is a NOPI event that same weekend.

I know Rick Finamore's show is more family oriented-which (because I HAVE a family) Ill be attending. Plus , I need to go where the potential jobs will be as well since my business and lifeline is working on cars. (LOL I gotta eat too you know)

Not to mention the fact that I get funny looks if I even attempt to drive my car to a traditional show (because Its got BILLET and chrome- )

There should be room for everyone . The Anheuser Busch show is the same weekend too (in NH) so it just HAPPENS sometimes.

Not attending one show or the other isnt personal for me- its business.:D
I hope BOTH are a success cuz both guys putting the shows on are great people .

(If any promoters in the New England area are interested in moving forward with an annual meeting to make sure shows dont overlap let me know- Ill p*** the info along to the guys who were setting up that meeting for next year)
