Hot Rods Replacement Ford running board covers

I have a 36 ford coupe with smooth boards. Has anyone ever tried to put replacement covers on a set of aftermarket boards? I know some have done it with rubber mat or truck bed mat but think the aftermarket covers would be nicer.
