My 1947 Ford bias ply tires have timed out. Looking to replace them with the new Diamond back radials on the original rims. The front axle is an original dropped axle that has the drop filled and not sure who dropped it. The front and rear springs are original and have not been reversed yet , but will be or replaced with posies reversed eyes. Looking to put 5.50R16 or 6.00R16 up front and 6.50R16 on rear since the rims are original 4” wide. Looking for pictures who have this setup on 41-48 Fords , issues they have had , easy of rear tire removal with the larger tire and reverse eye spring.
Having heaved and hoed tires under a fat fender Ford (though it was a 40 not a 47), I can say you might like the smaller front for turning clearance. And, you can probably go even bigger on the rear and still have enough room. If the rear tire is huge, you might need to fiddle the height of the jack during install and removal, but it can be done. Your stock wheels should be 4.5” wide, and many 7.00 x 16 tires have been used on that size wheel.
