So I'd like to replace my missing 1/4 window wood with steel. Has anyone done it, and have pictures on how they attached the garnish moulding? The first picture is my 30 coupe and I'd love to do something similar to what is on the next picture, which is a rolling bones car I believe? Though using garnish moulding to hold in the glass would cover up the dimpled support/surround so probably kinda dumb to go that route. I'm guessing that bones car doesn't get windows, or they are glued in? I'm not sure I'll have much of an interior for awhile, so that isn't a huge consideration currently. I have an idea in my head, may end up easier to just buy some window wood but I'm getting to the point where the budget is blown and I have the whole winter to finish up these small items.
Looks like they welded the window garnish. It would be easier to get the 1/4 window wood, or make your own wood. My 2cts. Steel won’t match the rest of the interior unless you do all steel. Getting the wood seems cheaper in the end.
I don’t know about cheaper, but easier I’m sure. I did just come across fordwood.com where they sell the window wood separately, as opposed to most where you have to buy entire body wood kit.
If I were doing it with metal I'd do a folded 90 then use my shrink/stretch tools to make the flange to the inside. Look at the photo of the Back window, that's what was done there. Then Plug or Tig weld it together. That gives you the Flange to the inside radi. and fastening the garnish molding is just a matter of sheet metal screw holes. The Wizzard
