So I'm looking for some opinions on what to do on the bottom of my trunk skin. So far I've removed the bad metal and created a replacement section. What I'm trying to decide is should I follow the line I've cut already or should I cut the old trunk skin back to the line of the new metal? In the second option there are some interesting profiles I'm going to need to make. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I would leave as much original steel as possible. Be sure to check the fitment of the outer skin before you weld the inner up solid.
Yep, I only go more new metal if making the patch bigger makes the seam easier, or the patch simpler. I'd trim that patch right about where you have your cuts on the original panel.
Hey, at this stage, I'd throw a couple tacks on your patch, and reinstall it in the trunk opening, and check the fit up. It would really suck to find you need a 1/4'' more material once the skin is added to close up the shut lines. I'd go with what you've cut and formed " IF" the skin will fit & it fits the opening.
Thanks a lot everyone, my original thought was to cut and weld the line I had marked. Then I started second guessing the idea and thought more new steel was better, thanks for the input think I'll carry on with the original plan. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
