I never got to it. Long story, but some family health stuff got in the way, and pretty much put a stop to any hot rod building since then. I do actually see the light in the end of the tunnel now, I hope to address the headliner this winter.
I just found this thread. Great job on the tech and pictures. I'll be using all of them. Thanks again
I can see using hole punches, that makes sense. What'd you use for the straight cuts? hope all is well with you...thanks-
One thing I didnt see mentioned here on all the postings..It will help any of you guys that are wanting to try your hand at this work to make sure that the machine you choose has a welt cord foot available for it..installing welt cord with a flat bottom foot is no fun at all..I had to make a foot for my Consew large enough for windlace....I also use monofillament thread so it matters not the color of upholstery..I also think it does not fray thru the needle as some nylon threads do.
Thank you so much for this post. I really appreciate the information/pictures you have provided, it is a great help. Truely inspirational. Now, I have no excuse.
Best looking amateur interior I think I've ever seen. Great job. The how-to is very clear and not at all intimidating, as well.
Found that the Budweiser foam - plastic signs they hang out side the C stores woork pretty good Ask your Bud Man he saves them for me
I am sure that I have not thought about all options, as I am just taking a stab at it. The welt cord foot sounds like a great aid. Do you have a picture on what you made?
Rolf: I do not have a way to post photos...Check with an Industrial Sewing Mach Co close to you and ask for a welt cord presser foot for your brand of Machine,,,,, You will get an idea of what I made ,only with grove in it large enough for windlace......
Rolf you are the man!!!! Betcha no one would ever know you did'nt spend over a grand at some shop to do that! No B.S that is some nice work my friend. Buzz Bomb
Thanks Gilgonzales for posting what this old man cant.... great shot of a welt foot...... I like to see these young guys learning different things !
This tech thread has convinced me to try my own interior, though I don't think it will go as smoothly. I can tell by the pics you're a neat percise person. Me not so much. Looks great.
Awesome tech Rolf i linked it in the interiors and upholstery group on the HAMB here... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=174 Superjunk-lots of cool interior stuff there for DIY.
Great first time job, I envy your talent. A tip for the do it your selfers. When I had my last deuce 2 door done I told him I didnt want any screws in the wood door pillar and asked him how he does it. He said he doesn't like the plastic push clips so he drills a 3/4 hole into the wood (not clear thru) and screws a small aluminum plate over the hole, drills a hole and uses the same clips you used in the doors so the panel is easily removable if you need to get to the window roller. Just one mans way of doing things.
