Yes that helps Rolf. Thank you. BTW, if you decide you don't like the foggys as turn signals, a buddy used turn signal/park light amber bulbs inside his headlight housings. If this intrigues you LMK and I'll send you a pic. It looks totally cool on park light in the evening/nightime.

  2. i have seen some guys actually use thier head light as front directionals .. they use a police wig wag flasher

Thanks, yes that is a thought. but they are not visible when you have the light on and the use of an amber bulb would not look right on these cars.

I used the head light as blinkers on my A, activation when off, interupting when on. Similar to the brake light function. Works well, I just did not have time to wire this car and the fog lights are kinda growing on me :)

Hey Rolf, instead of the amber bulb inside the headlight, what about one of those chrome - looking bulbs that sorta look bluish when off and amber when on?
You see them at Autozone and Pepboys,....

    Two things:

One, yes they are clearly visible when the headlights are on and if anyone is intrigued enough I could shoot a pic and post it.

Two, in my opinion I think the amber looks completely right but that is obviously subjective.

Oh yeah one more thing...more pictures! ;)

  8. First and foremost... I'm glad your wife is doing better... and our prayers are out for her and for her continued healing! (I had to sell everything these past couple of years and I understand what is "really important"!)

And second... I wish something like that would follow me home!

  9. Call me late to the party, glad to also hear your wife is doing better. Enjoy the summer in your cool coupe.

Well, I do agree that that filter element looks too "modern"

I actually stole out of my 1980 chev truck as I noticed it had the same diameter as the hub cap.

At least I may put a older style paper filter in. Thanks for the tip.

Well, you get one more for now:

Because of the new-found rear suspension travel it does not work with the exhaust under the axle. They should go over the axle and out following the frame rails but time constraint demanded a quick solution. I just cut it off and added these down turns. However, this created a horrendous resonance notice in the car; I actually used my motor cycle ear plugs for the test drive.

I was in a race with the clock because I had to have back surgery the next day and the recovery time in 6-8 WEEKS !! I got a chance to drive it just before I went in to surgery and MAN...does it drive nice now.

I headed right out on the freeway with eye balled toe setting and not even balancing done on the wheels. I am going to try balancing beads on this one. Stand by for report.

When the anesthesiologist turned on the juice all I could think about was me floating on clouds with a deuce coupe ;-) Maybe the drugs helped too !! :D

I am very pleased and it will be very gentle on my back once I am all healed up.

I have doctors order to not do any physical work for the whole recovery period but I should be able to at least drive it to the Ford meet early Jun and I have a friend that will help me complete the exhaust. 'till then...I can be a keyboard jockey ;)

Every time time I drive mine I'm on legal drugs..........quick question on the headlights...after cutting them apart do you use silicone to re-assemble the face with the new back?...Thanks, Jack...Oh and good luck with your back surgery.

You are right, there is a certain high enjoyed from driving a hot rod.

Yes, I just use clear silicon to marry the two. Just make sure you have the reflector clocked correctly.

Ric, yes, it got sold. Locally in WA state.

It was a tough decision but I don't need two coupes. Sometimes it is good to refresh the garage.

Rolf, I just happened to see your thread while looking for answers to my torque tube bearing problem. My prayers as to your wife...every day we are here is a blessing (and I am not religious, but fought cancer 7 years ago and it wakes you up) Thanks again so much for doing the work loading, as I was in pretty rough shape that day from sinus infection, and now I feel bad knowing your back was "iffy".

Was going to put your sport coupe body onto my stock frame/running gear to drive this summer while I stuff the flathead into another frame and just switch next winter....but decided to finish the mechanical stuff on the old Jeep. Was leaning against the bench listening to it purr and staring at the rear quarter, admiring how smooth the previous owner had gotten it when Sister and brother-in-law came by to take me to dinner and asked me what color I was going to paint it... I asked them to just wait a minute while I reached over and drove a screwdriver into the 1/4 panel. About 2 pounds of bondo fell onto my toe. A friend donated a bent up rear half of a body and another spool of wire and 20 or so hours of welding should suffice. I look at rust anymore like cancer....just take a deep breath and fight it.

Got the Model T running and took it around the block this week. Took a bit to figure out how the 3 pedals work...it is staying original...first it has run in over 20 years. Got Her up to 35 miles an hour once all four coils started buzzing. What a gas!!!

Will send picts of the Sport Coupe when it gets on the road. By the way, there is a 1955 Olds (running) in Portland Craigslist for $995 if you need stuff for the Coupe you are building. Gonna rob your hubcap/air cleaner idea tomorrow for my PU...love it!!!

    Take care!! Cheers, Clyde

Hey Rolf, Let me know if you need any help making sure you make it to the Ford Picnic. I'd be glad to come over and move your broken ass around in a desk chair strapped to an engine hoist so you can say you did it yourself.

Doug, I know you would actually enjoy that, at least the hoisting...you know, kinda like a hangman !!

If my Doc gives me green light to drive, I may take you up on that.

    Thanks...I think !

  23. So glad your wife won the battle. So sad the Model A went away. So glad you got another to work your magic on. Look forward to seeing you and it at the Ford picnic.

  24. Rolf good to have you back! Very glad to hear your wife is doing well. I met you at jagfxr1949's place a while ago. You were driving that sweet 58 Impala. You beat me to the punch on that headlight idea. But at least now I know it will work!

BTW Rolf, is the A coupe, that made you famous here, still in your possession? I read that you sold your roadster. In helping 56NoBrakes build his '29 coupe I used a number of inspirations from your coupe build. That thread was a great tutorial.

Trigger, I sold the A coupe, it is staying in WA state.

I sold a Brookville roadster and frame, as it can easily be replaced.

I now have a complete model A chassis and a decent original body. Plans are for a full fendered roadster. Still collecting parts for that build. Can't wait to mock it up though...

Wow, that had to be hard selling the coupe. I am sure this new coupe will turn out just as bitchin'.
