Picked up a 700r4 today .I hope I have the rite flex plate laying around to put this trans to the 250.Managed to get it for $125.oo.
Looks like I might have to buy a new flex plate.After looking at what I have laying around I don't think I have the right one.Oh well they are only twenty bucks at the auto parts.
That should make a nice combo. Check the distributor for wear, they like to wear at the upper end, and can make setting points a challenge. I may have missed it, but what is the rear axle ratio?
I'm not sure about the axle ratio but I think it is around a 3.73 or4.10.I plan on dropping in an HEI distributor.I have one on the shelf so I might as well use it.
Original rear axle gear was pretty low by today's standards but should be just about perfect with an overdrive transmission. And the six won't have enough HP to overpower it so, no reason to change it.

Good looking car too! You won't meet another one every time you drive it. A 250 is a good engine. I've had several, and I have parts to make one more, plus a spare block and crankshaft. I'm hanging onto it. Good luck!
Today was the day all the parts gathered in one place.Now I just have to let them do their thing and hopefully I end up with a running driving car soon.
I like your powertrain choice and should work for you for some time. I'm anxious for the build to begin, I hope to see pictures of the installation.
Heck I'm still trying to get the SBC and Th400 out that the last owner was trying to rig into it. I have done some odd things over the years but this guy takes the cake.Rewiring with Romex and extension cords.

I think that I might be setting the engine a little further back the what it did originally.The previous owner had cut out a big piece of the floor and firewall so cutting just a little more is not going to brake my heart.
You might get a few laughs out of this, a guy buys an old Frazer and puts it back in commission as his daily driver.
It's been a minute since I last updated you guys.The motor and trans is hanging in the engine bay.Now I need a driveshaft to help set some drive line angles before I start making mounts.
Stopped off at one of the local pick a part places today and found my driveshaft.It's a split shaft from a 2004 Dakota extended cab.
Went to Joint Clutch and Gear today and ordered the correct flange for the drive shaft to bolt to the rear axle.That should be in on Wednesday or Thursday.
When you get it together you are are going to want to see somebody who is good with the 700r4. They are very sensitive to throttle cable position, the later ones are better then the eaely 80's ones but they are still prone to eating themselves up pretty fast is not correctly set. They are also fussy about operating temp so an good sized aux cooler in a necessity. I have one on a Studebaker pickup behind a 195 HP Studie 259. The rear end in it is a three fifty something ford 9 in. With 235 75 15 radials it's running about 22/2300 at 65. The only complaint I have is mine came out of a late Caprice taxi and first gear is done at 20 mph. Ok for fully loaded operation but with a light empty vehicle there could have been a better ratio. If I recall, fourth is .78 OD. There is also an inside the sump wiring adaption that will make the lock up operate independently of the aftermarket wiring harness. Lots of info on the r4 on the web. Check out a few so you are familiar with their quirks. I had a guy who works in a UPS garage go through mine an did the mods refreshed the seals gaskets and such. Then had the throttle pressure cable set but a guy familiar with it's care and feeding. Good luck? Now whaddya gonna do with the /6??
I have done an exhaustive amount of reading on the 700r4.I don't quite understand the question about the 6.If you are asking if I'm going to modify it.I am not.
Got my rebuilt/shortened drive shaft today on my way to work.Between cutting/welding/rebalancing/replacing two joints/and the center bearing total came to almost $300.oo Ouch!!!!
The price of progress. It sounds like things are moving along for you though. I may have missed it earlier, but what is your shifter setup going to be?
