I recently stumbled across one of those deals where you can't pass it up....It's a Mallory Dual Point Distributor. 8 cylinder. Model R Type 11A serial No. 9769 Is there a web-site that I can gather spec's and I.D. this thing? The condensor is the same as what I run on a Model A Type 11A so now I'm confused as to what it actually fits, but my gut feeling is a Buick Flat 8 . Is there a Mallory Doc in the house? Much Appreciated guys! Dave
11A is one of the few Mallory numbers that stays stuck in my head, and it means Model A/B! How many lobes on the cam in that thing?? The 8 cylinder lid fits and functions on the 4-banger, and is a lot easier to find, so it doesn't mean much. This one has the one-piece shaft but looks like it is normal banger depth in total... Did Mallory make extended shaft ones also for OHV conversions?? Don't know.
Thanks Bruce! It is in Fact a Model A/B 4 Banger Dual Point. I had it in my hands and kept looking at that darn 8 hole cap....sort of like standing in the middle of the forest looking for a tree.
Normal nowadays is to keep an old outer 4-hole cover and run an 8 cylinder cap, since those are available. Keep what you have and run 4 dummy wires to the carburetor. Tell everyone that's what Winfield did...
maybe ask bud budington? i hear he has alot of old/nos mallory stuff . p.s. i need a mini mag voltage/starting box? if yer into mallory stuff
